Was that before the draft?
Maybe the thinking was, if we could trade him for a draft pick, we'd pass on Durant and Horford and continue with the rebuild. But because he couldn't find a trade partner, we held onto IT, signed Horford, went heavily after Durant, all with the thinking that we are going to try and contend sooner than later.
So I'm not sure if trading IT is in the plans anymore. IDK.

That's the crazy thing to me. I'm guessing he made a moon shot offer for the [HASH]1 or [HASH]2 pick and was promptly turned down. You'd think he'd want to keep that core intact for the chance to get Durant. Man, it's crazy how close we were to getting him (if you trust what you read). We still would've needed to trade for a big, but it was definitely an option.
And I agree with Jackie Mac. Absolutely love IT4, but he is such a detriment on the defensive end, especially in the playoffs when opposing coaches can try out different ways to take advantage of him. I love him as a 6th man, but not as a max contract player. And there are so many intriguing options in this draft. I'd be thrilled to get any of Jackson, Tatum and Ntilikina to pair with Fultz.

I think we went after Durant once we knew we were moving forward with IT as one of our main guys. Had we traded him before the draft, I doubt we'd gone after Horford, and of course would not have made a pitch for Durant.
So once that trade for a lotto pick did not go through, we were all in WITH Isaiah.
Now, the question is, will IT be able to swallow his pride and become a 6th man? At some point he needs to realize that he causes us big problems defensively.

Jackie Mac said that Danny offered IT for a lottery pick, but Danny strongly denied it. Maybe Jackie got a bad source or something but I really don't see Danny offering IT for a lottery pick.

I could see him doing it most years, but not last year. We had a good shot at getting the 2nd best basketball player on planet earth to sign here. We weren't gonna give up one of our best players right before he chose a team.
But this season? If we can get a high enough pick i say do it. This draft is loaded.
