It was an ugly loss to start the post season, but in general, this has been an ongoing issue with this team. Playing with heart and overachieving is what you want all your players to do, but talent ultimately wins.
We have tough and gritty players, but they come with big offensive limitations, and relying too much on these kind of players may prevent us from taking the step to true contendership.
I'm talking about Avery Bradley, Marcus Smart, Jae Crowder and Amir Johnson. These guys are our defensive core, but boy do they leave a whole lot to be desired for on the offensive side of the court.
If we want to put it in baseball terms, it's like having a great fielding team, but most of them bat under .250. It's great that they field every ball hit to them, but the team fails to score more than 3 runs a game.
We gotta find more well rounded players than the ones we have now.

We have a lot of guys starting who are good 6th, 7th or 8th players on a true contending team. I think we're all agreed that we need more talent. Brown is still very young and could be part of the answer, as could this year's Nets pick (or the player it's traded for). Add in some rebounding/toughness in Zizic/Yabu and we're a lot closer to where we want to be.
I fully expect some serious roster consolidation this summer, maybe as much as half of the team changing over.

Danny drafts the same type of players, hence the same skill sets.

I think the problem still is we don't have any transcendent players. Thankfully we have these brooklyn picks, so hopefully we can score a MVP-caliber player.

Danny drafts the same type of players, hence the same skill sets. I think he's done a better job recently. Take Rozier and Jaylen, for instance. They're gritty and fearless, and they can play defense (not really great at it now, but the ability is there). But what makes them different from Smart is they are more versatile offensively. They have more creativity than him. I think we'll see Ainge target more of these types of players, rather than go after players who struggle offensively but may be great defensively.

Maybe Fultz is that player, or maybe Josh Jackson will turn out to become one. I don't think Ball is because he's got big question marks offensively.

Yea I like having that one player with gritty defense and effort (a la Tony Allen in the 08 team) playing big minutes and maybe a couple guys off the bench, but having your starting SG/SF be that type of player is not effective for a smooth offense. Crowder, Smart, and probably Bradley would all be perfect sixth men.

Lots of good posts here.
A few comments:
1. Brown is well rounded, and will be a key cog of the next championship run. 2. The draft really has not had any transcendent players lately. Porter might be the next, next year. 3. Rebounding is really the result of a choice. When you play 5 guys who all take threes, means 5 players away from the basket.

In this series, what it boils down to is, the Bulls have the upper hand in talent. Jimmy Butler is the best player from either team, as far as being able to do what he wants to do. Next is the old man Dwayne Wade (who doesn't seem so old right now).
IT is doing lots of damage, but Butler and Wade are impacting the game's outcome more than he is.
Portis, Rondo, Grant and Lopez are winning more fights than Bradley, Crowder, Amir and Olynyk.
Now, IF we play as a group -- a cohesive unit -- than we are the better team. But we haven't seen that in these 1st 2 games.
