A good test whether or not his big rebounding performance was a fluke or not will be how well he does in his very next game.
Tomorrow night, we take on the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls use an assortment of big men, who range from tall and lanky to meaty and slow (Tyson Chandler, Mike Sweetny, Othella Harrington, Darius Songaila). Perkins will probably get to face all of them at one point or another, depending on how good of a job he is doing. Scott Skiles will make adjustments if Perk has a double digits in rebounding at the half.
So how well will Perk do tomorrow night?

6,8,6. That's 6 points 8 rebs and 6 fouls, four of which will either be ticky tack or great defensive plays.

8 pts 10 rebound or 12 if not in foul trouble.

I wouldnt be surprised to see him get in foul trouble in his next game and not do much. He's only 21 and still learning and inconsistancy is to be expected. That said I dont think that makes what he did the other night a fluke. I think it's a sign of things to come. If he strings together multiple solid performances, that is just a credit to him and would be pretty amazing considering the circumstances.

What Perk did last night is definitely no fluke, but don't expect him to have another 19 rebound night. Not against the Bulls. They have guys who can rebound as well, like Chandler and Sweetney. I say Perk get between 8-12 boards, but I lean closer to 8, with 6 points, and fouls out. I will say:
6pts, 8brds, 6 fouls (plays good D)

So you guys are saying that Perk "can" have another big night, except for the opinion that he'll get into foul trouble, which will limit his minutes, in effect, reducing his ability to have another big night?
I can see that.
But I'll go with the hot hand and say that Perkins pulls down 12 rebounds and scores like 10 pts.
Here's my explanation: The Bulls' frontcourt is not an offensive one. Mike Sweetney is the only big man on their team who makes their top 5 scoring list (11.4 ppg). All the rest (Othella, Chandler, and Songaila) average less than 6 ppg. With this in mind, Perk may not pick up fouls defending them.
However, the Bulls do feature a lot of scoring wing players. Ben Gordon, Kirk Hinrich, Luol Deng, and Chris Duhon are all above 10 ppg. But unlike Iverson (whom Perk picked up many ticky tack fouls on), these guys are very perimeter oriented. They hardly get to the free throw line and they have low FG%, which does usually indicate that they do a lot more shooting than penetrating. As long as they stay on the perimeter, Perk won't pick up cheap fouls from them.
Where Perk may pick up fouls is on offense. Since being inserted into the starting rotation, he's been playing under control and not rushing his game. If he maintains this, he'll be fine. But if he gets too anxious, or if the adrenaline is pumping too much, he could pick up offensive fouls.
But I say he'll play more than 28 mpg like he did against the 76'ers and put up 10 pts and 12 boards.

I think his game is in the hands of 3-4 other players stepping up to have solid games. If Reaf, PP, RD, Jeff and/or DW have good games it will open the game up for Perk allowing him to find a nice flow. If 3-4 of these guys play strong Perk is 10/13/2/2. If not he gets into foul trouble, trying to press the issue and goes 4/6/1/1. His game hinges on the rest of our team taking their bigs out of the mix. We need to spread the court.

In the last game, Pierce and Ricky were feeding Perkins in the post. To me, this shows that they have confidence in letting him score points.

I think Perk will have another solid game... His offense may not be as strong but I see him getting double figures in rebounds again as long as Doc plays him the minutes and doesn't go back to the Blount 30 Perk 14 mode again.... One never knows with Doc...
This wasn't a fluke for Perk. He has been on his way to games like this every game he has played. But Doc never gave him the minutes.... He would have like 5 or 6 rebounds in 10 minutes or so and then Doc would go with Blount the rest of the way.... If Perk gets the minutes, he will produce.
He picks up a lot of ticky tack fouls because the refs don't give him the deference that a star would get but I would rather him play hard like he does and pick up those fouls than to back off. Play him till he fouls out every game and those fouls will taper off.

I think 6 and 8 is a good nite for Perk. I don't think it's bad at all. Personally I thought the best part of the stat line in his break out game was 4 assists. When was the last time a 21 year old center got 4 assists? He had one bullet pass inside to PP or RD that was one of the best passes I ever saw anyone make

Wow, I was really off. Well, maybe he could have put up 10 and 12 if Tony Brown decided he actually wanted to win this game.
