The paper said that after pushing it too hard at a couple of practices he had renewed swelling and pain in the knee and that set back his return.

Just a minor setback. Though its just a gut feeling, I feel that Tony Allen's return will be huge for us. Not immediately (though quite possible), he may need to get the cobwebs out of his sneakers first. But when he assimilates himself back into the flow of the game, he'll be a wing player in the rotation who plays a lot of minutes. He'll give us that needed backup player to Pierce and Ricky, and could possibly push Ricky back into the 6th man spot. I am in favor of this move, as I have said time and time again that he really makes a difference in that role. But this is contigent on Allen having an impact with the starting rotation. If he doesn't, well there's no reason to move Ricky.

I think the biggest thing that Tony's return will do is to give Ricky and PP a few minutes more rest. Doc is playing them too many minutes. At the end of games they look like they are dragging and their shots are flat. They can't play 40+ minutes per game all year and still be effective.

That's when I want to see Orien or Dan at point and Delonte, Reed or Gomes at 2-3. We have options, they're just not being used.
I meant with PP or RD at the 2, with JR or RG at 3.

Indeed, both Ricky and Pierce are playing way too many minutes. Allen should neutralize that a bit.
I'm hoping that Tony really worked on his jumper durnig the offseason and while he was nursing his knee.

i would like to see Gomes playing too and am very puzzled by his DNPs game after game. I wonder what is going on with him.

He must just fall on the wrong side of Doc's 8-10 player plan. We are so deep, someone is bound to be left behind. NBDL? Whould it help or is it better to have the team practice together? All of them as one.

The final few games Ryan participated in, his shot was really off (he also looked weird at the free throw line) and because of that, he played the perimeter tentatively. I don't worry much about Gomes. He's had to prove himself throughout his college career and I'm pretty confident that he will prove to Rivers that he can play at this level. He already shows a strong tendency to be a player who always seems to be around the ball and he's a guy who can make things happen out of nothing.
