Awesome game!!! Best game of the year by far. This game had everything you'd want to see--close game, excitement, big plays, star performers, drama, etc. It was a close game till the end (the final score doesn't count because it was basically a free throw shooting contest as Philly had to keep fouling).
We would not have won this game without Kendrick Perkins.
He is the biggest reason why we won this game. I can honestly say that if Perkins did not have a big game, we would have been blownout by the 76'ers. You have to figure that for most of the night, Ricky and Raef were off, and Jefferson didn't play much. The 76'ers would have won big had it not been for Perkins dominating the boards. He kept them off of second chance points and his defense allowed guys to stay home. He deserves the game ball and he deserves 30 minutes a night after tonight.

Perkins has finally arrived!!!!! The boy can play!!!!!!! He absolutely dominated this game well he was out there. 19 freakin' boards? Woah, I don't think that's been done in Boston since Paul Silas played here. Also a shout out to Delonte West who made Iverson work for those points and to Raef LaFrentz who stiffed Chris Webber. Jefferson worked well on offense and demands more PT, too...... If Doc does not understand that Perkins and Jefferson is the future starting front line, he should let me coach the team. The future is NOW Was anybody nervous at 2:45 when Perkins fouled out and Blonut came back in? Pierce and later Dickau made sure of no Philly comeback. Very good win in another Boston-Philly classic. I feel better now going into the tough month of December, Good night and B C P B A H B Y

Where should I start? So many good things came out of this game.
Blount and Raef need to play less. From this game on, Perk and Jefferson need to play. Its evident that there's a significant difference between Perk and Blount on the boards and there's a big difference between Jefferson and Raef in terms of energy. Rivers needs to let the future start now by playing these 2 young guys a lot more.
What a difference it makes when we can control the boards. It allowed us to also control the tempo. The 76'ers were the ones out of sync. This is how we will begin winning more games--by controlling the boards. With Blount and Raef, we were giving up too many second chance points and we weren't giving ourselves nearly enough second chance opportunities to win games. Perkins was able to do a terrific jobs on both ends of the court. What a breakout game it was for him. Had he not fouled out, he would have had 20+ boards.
Delonte was a winner tonight as well. He did a very good job on Iverson, despite AI going off for 40 pts. AI had to work for his points and only a few buckets were easy ones. Heck, this is a future hall of famer we are talking about and Delonte made him work. Del also did a good job running the team. I feel confident with him running the team moreso than I do with any of the other PG's. He's not a playmaking PG, but he does a good job of doing what's needed.
Paul Pierce was fabulous. He came up with big buckets in the 4th as well as doing a lot of little things. This has to be the best I've seen Pierce play all season. He's had other games this year where he scored more points, but as far as doing what the team needed, he was everywhere tonight.

Perk definitely had a monster night, something that I was hoping he would have. Never thought he would have pulled down 19 though. Perkins DOMINATED the glass tonight on both ends of the floor. If he can rebound half as well as he did tonight. 9.5, 10brds a game or better, we will be in good shape. Hopefully Perk can eventually become our Ben Wallace. It's only one game so we can't get too carried away but it doesn't change the fact that grabbing 19 boards is no small feat! This game will really help to elevate Perk's confidence. Maybe that was all he really needed was to get significant amd consistent minutes. I will look forward to seeing him progress more and more each game.
If someone doesn't mind, when was the last time a Celtic had 19 or more rebounds???

From this point on, if we play like how we did tonight, we will be a winning team who surprises many people. Just by dominating the boards, we were able to keep our composure and not panic. At no point did we lose control and start to play fickle, like how we were doing in the past.
And all this because we were able to control the rebounds. Perkins himself did this for us. There must have been 5 rebounds that he plucked out of his defenders' hands. He's so strong that he muscled rebounds out of the defense's hands. When Blount came in for Perk, right off the bat there were 2 rebounds that Perkins would have had that Blount gave up, and that sticks in my head because it only solidifies why a rebounding force is so vital to our success. Because Blount and Raef aren't rebounding forces, we are at the other team's mercy. They control us because we aren't sure that every miss will be our possession. With Perkins tonight, there was a very strong chance that whenver the other team missed a shot, that was the end of it.

This may surprise you a bit, but the last time a Celtic had more than 19 boards in a game was Blount a couple of years ago. It was after Jim O'Brien quit when Blount came alive and started scoring and rebounding like crazy. He and Brandon Hunter were monsters on the board. In that game, I thnk Blount scored 26 pts and had something like 22 rebounds.

Your right Derren. One thing that people overlook is how good Perk's hands are. Everyone talks about Al's great hands, but Perk has a set as well. It seems that blount and Raef a lot of times just can't grab the ball. They jump and try hard for the rebound but wind up tipping it, many times to the other team. Perk just seems to jump up and GRAB the ball, and hold onto it. That is a sign of a great rebounder. Hopefully he can keep it up.
I'm out. Good win ya'll. Good night.

Thanks for that info Derren. Your right. I remember that Blount/Hunter combo back then. That one game is probably why Blount is getting payed his contract. I know from that point on, he averaged a double double or something til the end of the season. Too bad he forgot to rebound like that. I have a feeling Perk will never forget how to rebound. I also have a feeling he will top his 19 rebound performance this year.

Perk has good hands too. Strong hands like vise clamps.
Perkins is the best postional rebounder on the team (as in securing his position under the boards to clear space for rebounds).
Jefferson is the best instinctive rebounder on the team (as in naturally gravitating towards rebounds).
Together they are the best rebounding tandem we have right now.
Doc must take advantage of this and start the both of them. Raef does have a veteran presence that calms us when things get out of hand. But the future belongs with Al and Perk and he might as well give them a lot of minutes to develop right now to get it out of the way. The sooner the better.

If your asking if he can be a player like Wallace, as in a rebounder and shot blocker, then yes, he can be a Ben Wallace-type player.
IMO, he won't put up stats like Wallace, though. That's not to say that Perkins can't be good, but that's awfully high expectations.

What can I say: PERKENSTEIN HAS ARRIVED. THE PERKANATOR. WHAT YOU GONNA DO, WHEN PERK-A-MANIA RUNS WILD ON YOU!!!
Oh yeah, and nice win.
AJ had 2 blocks in only 14 minutes, along with 8 points. Would LOVE to see those boys get 25-35 minutes each every night.
Orien did well while he was in there too.

If Doc has learned anything this season, he should give Jefferson a boat load of time. Just like how Perkins is proving that he can play big minutes and produce, Big Al is also waiting for that opportunity to play a lot of minutes and show what he is capable of doing.
Jefferson just needs to be let loose for a whole game and he'll put up 20 and 10.
