I read this today too, however he has missed several years in the NBA, and had several red flags.

Could be a great pickup if he's got his mind right. He seems like an unusually smart and thoughtful guy who had trouble with NBA culture - leading to depression and drug issues. But there's no question he would bring a much-needed skill set to the C's.

I read today that the workout didn't go great and so he's probably not going to be a legitimate option for the team. Maybe if he has a second workout that goes better. But 2 years out of the league is a long time to pick right up where he left off.
I still see Zizic as our most logical option. The guy is tearing it up in a tough European league. David Blatt is impressed with him also.

@fl - is there anything preventing us from recalling Zizic? Some sort of contract clause or NBA rule?

If Zizic plays with the Celtics this season, we lose a year of control over him. And since we're not a title contender this year anyway, I'd rather see them hold off on bringing him over until next season.

jmost is right. I'd rather let him finish out the year overseas and then come for next season since we aren't going to contend for a title this season. I don't want them to sign a center as a stopgap measure unless that center is a piece going forward. Maybe a vet minimum for the rest of this year but also I don't want to upset the chemistry of the team to bring in someone for just a short stint to win a couple more games this season.
If Sanders can still play he might be a good option. Cut Young, who isn't doing anything anyway, and give him a make good contract just for the rest of the season. But I've seen articles saying the Celtics are interested in Vujacic - I don't believe he's the answer at center and he's making 12+ million a year for 2 more years.

Vujacic would tie up cap space if management wants to pursue a max contract FA.

It's a shame that Sanders didnt look good in his workouts. Dude is just what the doctor ordered for this team. Good rebounder who can protect the rim and run the court like a forward. Hopefully he'll look better in his 2nd workout.
