But the Celts can fit in all their picks this year so I'm not that worried. There are easy cuts to make this year and guys that are fairly easy guys to not bring back. Pressy. Shav. Bass. Gigi. You can make a decision on Jerebko or Crowder partly based on how much they get offered. Then you have choices on Gerald Wallace, Evan Turner, KO, T Zeller, James Young, and Sully the year after that.
I'm hopeful that's at least 4 or 5 young guys we can add. It's a ton of youth, but we aren't old now and key guys will get older. Avery, Smart, and IT will get older. I assume they'll sign at least one or two guys for fair money.
To me of all the guys I just mentioned coming up in the next two offseasons that just would be very difficult to replace in the draft with as many chances as Ainge will get is Sully and that's it. Healthy and dedicated Sully. But hurt overweight Sully is easy to replace.
And people talk about youth being bad, but I don't think it necessarily is youth that's the problem,. I think it's talent and serious mindedness. Kaminsky is older than James Young and I think more mature now. He's similar in age to KO. There are a bunch of very competitive guys that led their teams to good things in the NCAA tourney and want to win. Guys like Jerian Grant. Justin Anderson.
And they will be really good financial deals. It puts us in a really good position to gamble or poach other players. Andre Drummond, Mirotic, Draymond Green, Wiggins. It's just a matter of timing.
We can go shopping right now and if teams want to come to us then they can. But no need to do more than exploratory talks.

If Isaiah Thomas is any indication, Danny will make a play for a free he has his eye on and then will jump on any opportunity to grab that free agent when there is an opening. He's patient, but if he has his eye on an player he will jump on it. We also know that the owners are willing to spend if they are getting closer to contending. After this season, I'd say that they will be ready to back up whatever moves that Danny wants to make with the funding. I think it's going to be an interesting off season and we will have at least one star on this team next season, whether it is a center or a scorer or both.

Eja, Danny needs to do whatever he can to bring Crowder back. He can guard all 5 positions and do it well and brings energy and effort to every minute he is on the court. Players like that are hard to come by and he works very hard and I expect him to be better next season. He's one I really want back. I'd also like to see Jerebko come back. Lots of potential there. Bass will more than likely walk. He's a great character guy and is as steady as they come, but is the odd man out at a PF position that is crowded.
While I like Li'l Phil and I like Gigi and I like Turner, If we can upgrade there, I'd be for that. Jared has the talent to be a star but if his commitment to conditioning and keeping his weight down isn't there, he'll never be one. Danny and Brad will have a feel for if he has the commitment or not. Kelly has all kinds of potential, but he has to put on muscle and somewhere find a nasty side. Zeller also needs some muscle because he gets pushed around on he block. We still need a big, center who will be a rim protector along with being able to score in the paint.
It's going to be an interesting off season.

I think eja mentioned staying patient. Just about all the trades Danny has made were with a team that was desperate to win, and wanted that player to put them over the top. Danny has accumulated alot of nice assets, whether draft picks or young players. The market has not been there yet for the star player.

I think Crowder is good (he probably my favorite small forward on the team at this moment....my highest hopes are for James Young). It's just that I see 4 guys in that spot....Jerebko, Young, Evan T, and Crowder. Jerebko and Crowder can give a couple minutes at pf here and there and Evan T and James Y can give some minutes at guard, but to me it's just a really crowded position and money decisions will have to be made. Especially if they draft there God forbid. If they draft Kelly Oubre or someone slips or Ainge decides Justin Anderson is the pick (maybe later in the draft) then it gets more difficult.
Ainge might have a decision to make.....Crowder for 6 mill or Justin Anderson for 1. I might go with Justin A at that point.

Also...Sully.....I think if you get a good offer for him you gotta take it. You should offer him a contract not really any bigger than Avery's. Case in point...Al Jefferson. Always sorta a good numbers on bad team kinda guy. Has never been to an all star game. Sully is nothing like Al J. Nothing. On a good day he's like 85% of average day Al, but Al never had the work ethic issues or the weight issues.
If we can use Sully as a main piece of a nice trade do it. We can replace a lot of Sully very cheaply. Again do you want Sully at 6 or 9 mill or do you want Cliff Alexander or Kaminsky or Trey Lyles or M turner at 1 mill?
At some point you hopefully have like 9 good young players all making less than 2 mill and tons of cap space to sign someone or take on a large contract in a trade. I think that's what we need to go for. If you're not Avery or Smart or IT signing a decent contract you're gone. I'm not giving Ty Zeller 6 mill when I can replace most of what he does for 1. I'm not doing that.
Jonas J and Bass combine to take 10 mill off the cap this year and Gerald W takes another ten off the year after that. That money has to be saved, not spent. If you take that money and you give 6 to Zeller and 10 to Sully and 6 to Crowder....you're done. Those will be your pieces to offer in trades for years. I'm not doing that if I'm Ainge.

The thing I like best about Turner is that he has some pg skills and can shift to shooting guard and the other small forwards don't do that. But if we are using him at pg we are screwed. The backup pg is IT. After that we could use Avery if absolutely needed and at the moment we still have Pressey. James Young can shift to backup sg if needed. But I do think for 2mill ET is a bargain. I'd probably rather have ET for 2 than Jonas J for 4. But I'd probably rather have James Young for 1 than ET for 2 and I'd probably rather have Crowder for 4 than ET for 2.
