No word if Cousins will be made available this summer via trade, but there are speculations. Cousins may not be the ideal fit for new head coach George Karl and his uptempo style.
If he becomes available, for sure the Kings will ask for a lot. We do not have star players to trade them (well, unless Karl wants Isaiah Thomas, which would be hilarious because that would mean IT went from Sac, to Pho, to Bos, and then back to Sac in just a year). We can mainly offer draft picks and salary relief, and young players with some upside.
But giving up a chunk of our core for Cousins seems like running on a treadmill -- we're just running in place. What we want to do is add Cousins to what we 're already building here.

I'd offer something like Sully and three future 1sts. Though I doubt Sacto would take that. We really can't give up much talent that is already on the team, because then we would just be in the same boat sacto is now, and i've got a hunch if Boogie gets traded somewhere he wants to go somewhere he can win.

I'm torn as to whether I'd want Cousins or not. He's definitely a talent and exactly the type of center the Celtics need, but he's also a head case who could destroy chemistry in a heartbeat. I think it would be a chance worth taking for the kind of talent he'd bring to the team and trust that Brad Stevens' even temperament would somehow transform him into a solid team player and keep his ego and anger in check. I'd mostly try to give up some of the massive chest of draft picks Danny has and maybe one player at the most. I wouldn't strip the cupboard bare just for him though.

I wonder if Cousins would still have issues with being a headcase if he were playing on a winning team, and playing for Brad Stevens (as you mentioned FL)?
I'd be willing to give up a boatload of picks in this draft and maybe some of next year's, but beyond that, it would be wise to hold onto the first' see have. We have future unprotected firsts (unprotected being the key word) coming from Brooklyn, Dallas, and Memphis (I believe). Brooklyn is going downhill quickly, and that boat could sink to the bottom of the Atlantic. We might end up with a high lottery pick from them. Dallas is growing old, and we can wait to cash in on their pick until 2021, I think. Same with Memphis.
We just can't mortgage our entire core for Cousins, like we did for Garnett. We don't have a Paul Pierce caliber star player on the team for Cousins to join.

IN the years that the Celtics have multiple picks, it would be ok to trade one or two. I'd hang on to those Nets picks because they are fixing to be pretty good I have a feeling. The Celtics own pick might be the ones to trade since I'm hoping that we are done with the lottery from this point on.

Yeah, our own picks would be the ones to trade, since we're only going to get better from here on out.

After watching how we've been getting killed on the boards in this series, I wonder how different it would be if Cousins was on the court? And seeing how we're just a jump shooting team, I wonder how it would look if we were feeding Cousins the ball in the post?
Has the game evolved so much that power big men who operate iso in the paint is no longer appealing? Or is there still a need for these kind of big men?

Cousins is almost like Josh Smith in many ways, however alot more talented without the 3-point game. On a veteran team, I could see the relationship working.

I remember back to when Robert Parish was considered an underachieving head case on the Warriors. That didn't work out so bad for us.
And likewise, Dennis Johnson was considered to be a head case in Phoenix. Sometimes all a player needs is a solid coach and a good system and a change of scenery.

Boogie has developed nicely on what may be the most dysfunctional franchise in the NBA. I'd love to see what he could do on a good team.

And maybe he's never played for a coach like Brad Stevens before. Brad has a way about him which players seem to respond well to. Even the stubborn and strong willed Rajon Rondo never had anything bad to say about Brad Stevens. Quite possibly, Cousins could play his best under Brad simply because he buys into who Brad is and what Brad is instilling among his players.
Could we use a 20 and 10 guy? Could we use a big bodied big man who helps us defensively? I think so.

I think our best shot is to stay the course at the present time and I'll explain why. Timing. KG wanted out of Minnie. Made it a lot easier to get him. And he wouldn't have wanted to come here if it weren't for Pierce and Ray. We don't even have a Pierce yet.
Unlike then we have money to throw around. We should be looking for upgrades, bide our time another year or two and pounce. There are going to be a lot of retirements soon. A lot of interesting stuff will happen. The salary cap is going to go up massively. GMs will make mistakes. Guys will get mad....theeeenn POUNCE. But don't reach now.
We tried shopping Rondo all over the place. Shopping is hard to do. You don't get value. Buying. Buying is where you get value. IT was great value. But you gotta wait for someone to start selling to do buying.
There are places to be looking. Cheap and expensive. Word is Love might be unhappy in Cleveland. Cory Joseph...great numbers but never got time behind Tony Parker. The 76ers and Knicks are a cluster fudge. The Rockets have like 3 great young bigs fighting it out.
We need to wait. Then take advantage of people. Let James Young show us who he is. Let Smart get a lot better. Let the process play out.

Really good thougts, E. I think you will find that Ainge has the same mindset. He is not one to jump the gun and settle for less than what he's aiming for. If he wanted to trade Rondo, he could have done so at any time. But he waited till he got an offer he was willing to accept.
But you also might want to consider that now might be the time to strike. We have tons of draft picks, and it isn't feasible that we're going to keep them all (our roster can't handle such influx of draftees every year).
Cousins could be that distraught player who wants to leave his organization, like Kevin Garnett back in the summer of '07. Who knows, maybe it won't cost us too much of our core to get him (but I expect we'll be giving up lots of draft picks instead).
Or maybe we don't have to go the trade route if Kevin Love opts out of his contract with Cleveland, and signs here as a free agent (his name again is rumored to be an offseason target of Ainge).
