Thing is you could hear greatness in how emmitt was too. He was so driven. He told that story about being at the rose bowl with his friend and telling his friend how that was going to be him someday at the rose bowl winning the superbowl. he did that. Walter Payton was his idle too and said he was going to break his record and did. I think people underestimated Emmitt's awesomeness. I bet my friend $500 that emmitt would break walter's record. My friend thought I was crazy. I won that bet. Emmitt put up numbers wherever he was.
Emmitt was a huge walter payton fan though and was obsessed with being great. He was also very goal driven. He put up huge numbers wherever he was. He rushed for 8800 yards in highschool and scored a ton of touchdowns. Went to florida. Succeeded Neil Anderson there. Put up big numbers. Florida knew how to run the ball and emmitt was a guy who knew how to find a hole and exploit the defense. Tom brady is like that too. He grew up idolizing joe montana.
I don't think KO is like those guys or that driven or even in that class really. But he is a hard worker with a good skillset which should bring success. DAnny Ainge is a good GM and the Celtics know what they are doing with players like this as well. I don't know or think KO will be an alltime great but being an allstar player is within his reach I would say.
Emmitt slid down in the draft because physically he wasn't that fast or that whatever. Blair Thomas wen t ahead of him and Emmitt fell down the draft a bit and the cowboys moved up and snagged him at 17 because they liked him. It was never said who did that. But it wouldn't surprise me if it was Jimmy Johnson because he was coaching in Miami and knew Emmitt was good and productive. Sound familiar though? I think it does. Pierce was the same way in ways. I don't think KO is in that class but the similarities are there.
Butler and Gonzaga are rivals and Brad Stevens liked Kelly Olynyk. KElly was an all American playing at Gonzaga and an underrated program much like butler. Both Sully and KO come from strong basketball families as well. Kelly was a late bloomer of sorts who was a 6'3 pg who shot up to 7 feet. Played off the bench in college early on, was redshirted and came back and had an all American season. Doc was still here but Danny and Stevens were talking already no doubt. Doc was off somewhere else during the draft and just showed up at one point but Danny and Stevens were already working together imo.
Danny was also looking for a player who could go with Rondo and replace some of KG's offensive production. I don't think KO is that guy singlehandedly but between he and sully they are going to put up numbers. I still think we are missing that star or 1 guy but I think between KElly and Sully they are going to get production.
