So far in his very young career, he's managed to break his left hand, then his right hand, and sprain his foot. I expect more sprains to come, being that its a common injury among athletes.
But is this a sign of things to come--Is Delonte Mr. Frail? Will he be one of these guys who only plays in about 70 - 75 games a year because of various injuries?
This must be taken into serious consideration because if its seems likely that this how things are going to shape up, we need to make sure our backup PG is very reliable.
Maybe going after a vet PG this summer who can show our young PG's a lot of tricks of the trade and how to execute plays properly is mandatory. Maybe somehow obtaining Jasikevicius is of higher value than we perceive (he's looking for a 3 year, 10 million dollar contract). Jay Williams is returning to the NBA this season and is going in for a tryout with the Heat. Maybe Ainge needs to get on the phone and get him in Boston for a tryout as well. If Delonte goes down again, Banks is going to be the one starting, and I'm not comfortable with that.

Still though, this is a stupid reason to give up on him. But Banks starting is not wise and it can happen if Delonte is hurt. But also, Delonte making 70-75 games a year is good. its not like he'll miss a sh|tload so he'll be a 30-40-50 gamer man. Ainge still has confidence in him and I see him overcoming this. And about Jay Williams. I TOLD YOU SO! I TOLD YOU HE WOULD GO TO A CONTENDER!

And which contending team is he going to, Meltin?
If Delonte plays only 70 - 75 games, that is not good. Any starter missing close to double digits in games is going to hurt the team's momentum.

Miami. Someone said that above where Jay Williams might be going. Damn kid, go get some eyedrops. Many guys have missed 10 games a year and did good. Name me 1 player who made an impact while losing 10 games in a season? I could name a few if I had a statsheet.

Well, since I'm the only one other than you to post on this thread, I guess you are referring to me as the one who mentioned that Miami signed Jay Williams. Well, here let me pass the eyedrops over to you cause you obviously have selected vision.
Jay Williams is returning to the NBA this season and is going in for a tryout with the Heat.
A PG who misses more than an 1/8 of the season every year due to injuries ultimately hurts his team. Especially if that PG is a big part of the offense. Just look at Phoenix and New Jersey when Nash and Kidd aren't playing. Look at how much Indiana missed Jamaal Tinsley--they were a different team when he wasn't in the lineup. They took care of business against us in the playoffs after he came back.
Delonte isn't as important to our team as those guys are for their respective teams. But that's why I'm saying that we need to have our backup PG's up to par in case he goes down.

I'd say Jay Will will probably go to the team that actually offers him a contract so ultimately look for him to possibly joing the Grand Rapids whatchamacallits.

I'm sure some team will offer him a contract. It may not be much, but this guy has a smart basketball mind, so even without optimal physical skills, he can still be a solid 2nd or 3rd stringer. If he returns to very good health, he could make his way back as a starter.
This would be the perfect opportunity to add him to our NBDL team. I'm sure he'd get some kind of league exception because of his injury taking away his past 2 years after being drafted.

A pg being healthy is a key factor but I don't think missing 5-7 games is gonna hurt. Think of the other positions who can step up if they are stronger for us. I just have a feeling our future team won't have a top pg in it so this leaves the other positions to be stronger if so.

Meltin, my point was a PG who misses more than 10 games in a season hurts the team from gaining a good rhythm. 5 games is about normal for most players. but if he only plays in 70 games a year, there's a chance that we could lose a place in the standing if the race is decided by 1 or 2 games.

Williams possibly going to Miami has nothing to do with them being a contender. It would be because Miami has plenty of empty roster spots & basicly nobody on the PG spot. Miami has to fill out the roster with a bunch of scrubs because Shaq's contract. Picking Williams at a cheap price would fit their bill.

Derren I agree. missing 10 games is too much but 5 isn't. To gain homecourt advantage in the playoffs can depend on that too. Also Ossric, Damon Jones won't be back there. They will need JW.

Jay Will scares me. I really respect Jerry West's judgement and think he is second to only Red as an NBA GM. If he don't want Jay Will then I don't either. Jay Will plays out of control alot.
I really was impressed with some of the intagibles West showed in Vegas demanding his mates play better. That is just what we need. He needs to put on some muscle though as he is fragile but it may be a factor of playing hardnose or bad luck.

No, he probably won't be returning to 100%. But that just means he'll have to settle for being a 2nd or 3rd tier PG in the league, who can occassionally look like a top tier PG. But he went from the original prognosis of the possibility of amputating his leg, to re-learning how to walk, to getting back in running shape, to being able to cut and pivot while running hard, to trying out for NBA teams--all in a matter of 2 years. His determination to return to health is outstanding.
