My home town(Chennai, India) just got hit by a tidal wave and over 700 people are dead. Thankfully, my folks were a safe distance away. What a way to end the year! Crap, in my 20+ years there, never has the city been hit by anything of that magnitude. Heres a prayer to all those affected by the disaster. news.bostonherald.com/international/view.bg?articleid=60495

My goodness, that is just tragic. Unfortunate, what happened to your hometown, Sprash, but thank God that your family is safe. 700 people? A prayer for all the family members who have been affected by this.

Dave, my heart is saddened by your news. I've never had the experience of being in the situation you and your sister are in, but I do sympathize because I can imagine how it would feel like if my little 4 year old neice was lost and I couldn't get in touch with her. Sprash, I hear that the total now exceeds 22,000 people Asia-wide. This is just tragic. I will take the time now to offer a prayer for you and the people who have been affected by this disaster.

It's way out of hand sprash... How's your family brother? We care! Hey, thanks for all your concerns man. I truly appreciate it. I talked to my mom yesterday and she was trembling while she was talking about the tsunami. She told me that pretty much most of the peole who were on the beach for their early-morning walk were all washed away. I was also told that the citys most famous fish market was also destroyed. My grand-dad's flour mill which was near the coast was however spared. One of my moms best friends escaped death by a whisker. She was at her beach-house when the water came crashing in. She was swept away to about 100 feet but managed to survive. She also told me that it was really painful to see the fishermen and the poor people crying on the streets after losing their homes and/or loved ones. It seemed that pretty much all of the New Years celebrations were cancelled in the city in the wake of the tsunami. People are still trying to comprehend the magnitude of the disaster. My family members are all thankfully safe. My heart goes out to all those affected by this terrible disaster. Just when you think that 2004 in India was uneventful...

The numbers are staggering, and it still climbs. Nice to see so many countries helping out with the cause. Any talk of war takes a back seat in a time like this.
