I havent bought a music CD I really enjoy in a long time... I am pretty much getting out of touch in my old age breaking the 30 milestone a year ago.... Can anyone suggest any good music I might enjoy. Im pretty much a rock junky. What happened to rock music??? It seems like everything that is popular these days is rap, r&b, or norah jones folk like music... Im not feeling it. I need something that rocks. And I'm not into a lot of the popular rock that has come out lately, nu metal, hybrid lynkin Park crap etc... The stuff Ive really enjoyed is the grunge scene in the early 90's plus I was an 80's classic rock fan
Grunge-
Pearl Jam Alice in Chains Pumpkins Nirvana Soundgarden Stone Temple Pilots Rage against the Machine
80's and beyond
Van Halen The Police GNR U2 Tom Petty The Cars Zeppelin Pink Floyd The Doors
etc.. Can anyone here suggest anything I might be into these days. I find myself going backwords rather than forward when it comes to music. Im getting into the Who, Hendrix, the Stones and Cream lol... Where has the rock gone? Music with balls... Im not really a thrash metal scream all the lyrics fan. Korn was ok..... I like Rock, Grunge etc. And I dont really like copycats. I like music tha tis original. Take Audioslave or velvet Revolver for example. It's pretty cool and all the first time you hear it, but it's been done before. Plus it's almost too mainstream.. I do like popular music though to an extent. I like hooky music like Green Day although they are closer to pop than punk. Tool is pretty cool although strange, almost too off the deep end. I think Beck's Sea of Change was the last cd i bought. I think my tastes are more hard rock in a nutshell although i do like more mellow stuff and hooky music, alternative as well.

I hear you, CF. Music nowadays are all fluff. Whatever happened to guitar riffs that made you pump your fist and stomp your feet? Now, all bands are doing are playing power chords and rapping over them. They spend thousands of dollars to buy killer equipemnt, but all they use their guitars, effects and amps for are to hold down 4 power chords the entire song.
This is kind of like Latin/Blues/Rock, but get Los Lonely Boys. Really incredible rockers and great harmonizing. I bought their CD before they got big. I seen them on Austin City Nights (I think that's what the show is called) on PBS one night while I was channel surfing and I went out and got their CD shortly thereafter. Really good band.
Other than them, I like Evanescence.
Kind of different, but I also like Avril Lavine. Couple of good songs on her first album.

Los Lonely Boys reminds me of Stevie Ray Vaughn texas blues type stuff. Not sure if that is my cup of tea. I tried getting into Johnny Lang and Kenny Wayne Sheppard a while back but it didnt sit.
Foo Fighters was another band I liked that was post grunge, hard rock..... I forgot them.. Ive heard Evanescence, I dont know. They are ok.

Hey, stick with Dave Groehl and Foo Fighters. I just love Dave and the way he can incorporate heavy/grunge type of songs with catchy hooks and lead lines. Everlong is just an incredible song--did you hear the acoustic version of that one?
Lately, I've been itching to buy some Neil Young CD's. I'm really digging his vibe these days, and I hear a lot of Neil Young in Eddie Vedder's lyrics and singing style. Did you hear Eddie sing with Neil on "Rockin in the free world"?

That is my favorite Foo Fighters song. Foo Fighters is the perfect example of the type of music I like though like you said. They are that heavy grunge sound, hard rock with a hook to it.

And yes I like that version. I actually just picked up a couple live Pearl Jam CD's. They are really the only remaining band from that genre. It's sad.....

Lane Staley passes on. And now Dimebag (Diamond) Darrell. You like Courtney Love's music? What about Veruca Salt? They are quite grungy with catchy hooks. Oh, and of course, one of the best bands to do this is Smashing Pumpkins. Corgan is also an incredible artist.

Speaking of Foo Fighters and Dave Groehl I kind of liked QUeens of the Stone Age latest CD. It wasnt great, but pretty good. Dave did a lot of the drums and writing on that cd.

Yeah, Queens of the Stone Age and Velvet Revolver are good current bands. We need more bands like them. STP should make another CD. I always liked their guitar work.

Im not really big on Courtney Love or Veruca Salt.. I love the pumpkins. I have most of their cd's if not all of it.. I've listened to it to death though. Why im looking for something new. I guess that genre is dead literally in most cases. It died with Lane and Kurt and bands like Soundgarden and The Pumpkins going their separate ways. I just wish someone would be creative and come up with something musical that isnt computer generated or just lacking substance in general. I'm not knocking some of the more melo musicians like John Mayer or Norah Jones. They have talent, it's just not the music Im looking for.
I know there must be alternative bands out there that I should give a listen. The Shins? Flaming Lips? I know Radiohead is given godlike status these days. Ive never given these bands a listen. The stuff i have heard hasnt really caught my attention though.. The White Stripes, The Hives, The Strokes, The Vines. I don't know..... This is where the whole out of touch part comes into play.

Well, it's time you, me, Bosloy and BC got together and put out a rockin CD of pure rock and headbanging. A good dose of Cobain and Grohl, with a liberal dash of ACDC, throw in some Metallica riffs and some good ol fashion vocals and we got ourselves the next Led Zep ;D

BC, you ever listened to Iced Earth? Really good riffs and power stuff. Not deathmetal, but really good power metal.
