s98- What would this record from the 1950's compare to? Ruth/Maris? Cobb/Rose? Marino/Payton? (Dolphin fan here) I want to see cricket played! ! ! I dont know if I can directly compare this record to Ruth and Maris. It is a little different as both the guys (Sachin and Zaheer) were on the field the whole time while in baseball, two baserunners are on base for not more than 15-20 minutes. Ruth and Maris set a record for one season, while this was a single game record. Same goes for Peyton/Marino. I do not know what the Cobb/Rose record is ,though I speculate its another HR/RBI single-season record. What is impressive about this record (though it was against lowly B'desh), is that it was a 'top-order' player Sachin (the Babe Ruth of cricket) with a no 11 ('jack') Zaheer. 'Jacks' are bowlers(pitchers) who dont bat well, although Zaheer is one of the better 11s. Man, if only you could watch the game. Some of the series is available online. But the current ones online arent good. I will let you know if a good series is available.

Cobb/Rose was the All-Time Hits record. The examples I gave were more for how special or hard to surpass. Not game record or season based... How about Chamberlin's 100pt game?

Oh man, the 100 point effort is tough. I wonder what the Lakers were doing, just give Wilt the ball and watch? The record is a little special, considering the fact that the better player (Sachin) had to not only score runs himself, but protect the lesser player (Zaheer), from the better bowlers in the opposition. But this record pales in comparison to a mammoth performance by 2 Indian players against the Aussies 4 years back. That series is still considered to be the greatest Test series of all time. BTW, c17, do you happen to know any Indians/pakistanis near your place? Coz, most of them are cricket fanatics and maybe, you can catch a few games with them.

sprash- I do have a couple customers that are Indian... I'll bring it up to them. I'd like to learn the sport. I just love stats and cricket seems to be loaded with numbers.
