Seeing a lot of reports that Ray Allen is talking with the Celtics about coming back to the team. I personally don't think it would be a good idea. He's been out of the game for a couple of years and pretty much thumbed his nose at the Celtics when he left them for the Heat for less than the Celtics offered him. What do you guys think?

Hmmm....... that's tough. A traitor possibly coming back is not what I'd want. But then again, we lack pure 3 pt shooters, and if Ray can still offer that, it is a skill we need and don't really have (nor are there many other options to choose from).
We did have some great memories with Ray, and he was a big part of our championship. If he can help us win another title, is it worth putting away our negative feelings about what he did?

I never had an issue with him leaving. Dude was a free agent. It was his choice. If we had the roster room, I'd gladly give him another chance here.

Call me a pessimist if you will but how is Ray Allen supposed to help this team? He hasn't played in 2 years and jump shooters need their legs.. Age and etc what is he going to offer?
Maybe it would have been better planning to pursue someone like Jamal Crawford. Or another free agent instead of pursuing has beens and want to bes. (Zeller)..
Not sure how emotional I feel about ray..Wasn't there a beef between him and rondo? So it was not just going to south park for a ring that caused him to leave. Ray was a class act while here. I choose to focus on thar

I don't have a problem with Ray, but even if he could be the Ray of 2008 I don't think I'd sign him. What would be the point? Is he going to help us win a title this year? No. Will he be around when we are ready to compete for a title? No. Might he help us win a few games this year? Sure. But I'd rather give the minutes to some young guy so he can develop.

I didn't have a problem with Ray leaving. My problem was his going to the team that just beat us in the playoffs and taking half the money to do so. It just seemed like a slap in the face to the Celtics and their fans. Durant did almost the same to OKC this season. It wasn't his leaving that was so hard, it was his choosing to go to the team that just beat them in the finals and that has been one of their chief rivals. That makes it different from just leaving.
As for Ray helping the Celtics. I'm sure he has kept playing and kept in shape the two years he has been out of the league. But, how effective will he be at his age. Like has been said, a jump shooter needs his legs and will he be able to shoot a high percentage for a whole season? I guess those are questions Danny needs to answer.

Darren I agree in a sense that him going to Miami hurt. Much like if a red Sox player went to the Yankees.. But if he could not peacefully coexist with Rondo.. I can't blame him.. It is not always about the money..

It's completely impractical. I don't see how he's going to practice to the extent that he needs to in order to push guys. I don't see him being able to play high level defense. If it's so important to him let's see him play for the Red Claws for a month and see how he hangs in. But I don't want to cut anyone for him. I'd like to keep Nader and I don't think we'll be able to. I don't think Ray's desire to play should in any way be more important than Nader's desire to start his career and I have doubts Ray would help as much.

I'd rather Nader than Ray and Ray's defense never was very good and now several years later, it will probably be close to nonexistent.

Yup.. I think Nader is getting the short end of a messy stick. Hey kid. We want you to be on call just in case we decide we want you. Don't worry about what's good for you.. Just think of my master plan.. I screwed up and kept all my draft picks..
Nader has potential. Ray is a great person.. Give nader a chance at this level..

8 - 12 minutes a game, strictly as a 3 pt specialist, I think Ray can manage that.
As we perfect our pace and space, and as we fly around the court more, Ray (or any 3pt specialist) will be key.

So we would have Ray and Isaiah together ? Wonder what the plus minus of that backcourt would be..
Kinda reminds me of the Las Vegas line.. Rosie. They are going to score a goal or give one up.. lol..
Darren you believe we need a 3 point sharp shooter.. Any names you might want to throw out there? Isn't that the role Gerald green is supposed to be doing?

Off the top of my head of the players still not signed there are a couple... But all of them as you might expect come with baggage. Player 3 point percentage OJ Mayo 32.1% last season 37.3% career JR Smith 40% last season (43% in playoffs) 37.5% career Jason Terry 35.6% last season 37.9 career Steve Novak 46.7% last season 43.1% career Kevin Martin 36% last season (50% playoffs) 38.4% career
Gerald Green 32.3% last season 36.1% career
