Ok, I chatted with a guy on yahoo called sidewintertn (screenname). He knows a lot about the celtics and his dad was a fan also. His gut feeling for the future is get a load of this. Larry Bird will return to the celtics bench and will leave Indiana to do so down the road. If Larry Bird does want to coach again, I suppose this is the only logical place hed go. But from what I understand, it seems hes on the outs with Danny Ainge and wouldn't want to work for him. Or am I wrong? He basically said it like this, he thought Danny and Larry have an agreement that Danny would have to develop his players and then Larry would coach in Boston and take them to the title. All I have to say about that is, if its meant to happen, it will. I personally cannot see Doc as our coach when our team wins #17 so who knows. Weirder things have happened like for example, there was a story on a guy on tv who became a brain surgeon and didn't even graduate HS but got his degree somehow. Tell me thats not weird. I know its sounds so ourt of whack and crazy seeing Bird is vested in indy but it was a good opinion I thought I would share with all of you.

It will take 2-3 more years of developing. Though Bird has always done things on his terms.

It be like the prodigal son coming home and the city of Boston would go absolutely nuts (and so would one big time fan in Hawaii). Of course, I'd be very sympathetic to Doc Rivers because it'll be like him doing all the leg work and then right when everything is set in place for him to reap the fruits of his labor, he gets axed and Bird gets the glory.
But I also wouldn't put it pass Ainge to do this.
But all in all, I can't really say I share this vision. And I can also tell you that I do see Doc being able to coach this team to a title. He's improving as a coach, but more importantly, he's got the players listening to him and obeying his demands. That's probably the biggest step for a coach.

Doc commands the respect and attention of his players. They are starting to believe in him. He's still making some wrong decisions, but that's him being a risk taker and not just a tentative coach (much like the way he used to play).

If Doc does take us to #17, he could be like our KC Jones. If I am not mistaken, wasn't KC Jones at a time not such a hot coach before going to Boston?

Larry is not going to quit his job in Indiana. But he remains a top coach nontheless..

If I can recall, wasn't Doc "Coach of the Year" one year in Orlando?

That was before T-mac and Hill came though. He had an all young team with no stars with 4 undrafted rookies. Thats why he could do good by our young guys.

My gut feeling is there is no way in heck Larry Bird comes back here, unless a new owner takes over the team that wants to hire Larry Bird.

WYC didn't screw him over though. But, heres the truth. Bostons management still succks. Birds chances might be better going to the bobcats in reality seeing they are building quickly and already have a franchise player in Okafor and possibly May and 1 more in this next draft. This way Bernie could go back to the head office and not take on both coaching + gm. I can see them catching Birds eye BECAUSE I remember he wanted to help start the charlotte organization too.

Unless Bird gets a championship type lineup in Boston, I would never expect him to come here to coach.
