Thanks guys. A bit clearer to me now. Based on those definitions, I would agree. In past few drafts, players who excelled at the college level, but say were undersized for example, were taken much lower than players that had the physicial tools, but didn't use them.

Right, RR. Off the top of my head, Dahntay Jones comes to mind. Here's a phenomenal athlete who may have had some basketball skills. But then a guy like Luke Walton, who has far less physical gifts, but a far greater basketball mindset, is drafted much lower. And to this point in their careers, Walton has had the better career (and I still feel that Walton is going to breakout--too bad he wasn't a few inches taller).

It seems like the draft goes through cycles. For example:
>high school picks >foreign picks >college stars (but under sized) >athleticism
One team gets a 'fluke' of a player, and the next few years, other teams try to mimic w/ no success.
Derren, Jones is a great example.

Yeah, I guess he is. There are lots to choose from: Lenny Cooke, Qyntel Woods, Darius Miles, Demarr Johnson, etc. Oh yeah, can't forget about Kedrick Brown.
From what I've seen, Gerald Green is a phenomenal athlete who has a lot of basketball skills (dribbling, shooting, slashing, etc). But it remains to be seen how good his basketball mindset it, aka basketball smarts or IQ. I haven't seen enough of him to know how well he sees the court, how instinctive he is.

Definitely. Athletic=potential and smart/hard worker=not athletic...obviously the goal is to get a player with athletic ability who has a good head on his shoulders...and as for Luke Walton, are you kidding me? we could have had him for free last year.

Dahntay Jones is terrible though. I wonder if Rashad McCants is the next Dahntay, Todd Day or Forte in the making.

Rashad McCants, and Joe Forte for that matter, have athleticism as well as basketball smarts. McCants is a terrific all around player. But like Forte, he seems to have something wired differently in his head. I think the connections in his brains are mixed up.

I can see that happening too but there were better draft picks around.
