Well Atlanta takes it to the hoop hard every possession and therefore put the refs in a tough position to call the foul while the Celtics pass around the perimeter like they're afraid of getting their shot block and wonder why they aren't getting free throws...There's no aggression but there's still time to salvage the game...c'mon vets...

I can't believe that the Celtics have choked so bad on the road

I think our guys mostly have no idea how to win in the playoffs. They never have.

Poor loss. Up by 12 after 1Q, and lose? ATL is a decent team, but doesn't have a bench.

we just can't execute in close games..we don't know how with all our options..That's why we always had blowouts to avoid those close situations...it's frustrating...

This is horrible. The series going to 7 games against the 8th seed Hawks. No excuse for it. They just quit playing defense. Losing this game says a lot about this team and it doesn't bode well for the rest of the playoffs. They should win at home Sunday, but it shouldn't ever have gotten to this point. The Celtics lost their focus and beat themselves with a lot of help from the refs.

ОМG what the f*** is going on they don't deserve to go next round, better lose here and never play second round against that monster, better lose and think who are our new guys for next season

I agree 100% It's as if they are either so affraid of a blocked shot or the call not going their way that they settle for jump shots and are not attacking Atlanta's defense. And they are using home court advantage as a safety blanket. If we are to beat Cleveland (who managed to put away their opponent in game 6, as did Detroit and Utah BTW) we can't play such soft basketball on the road. Each of our stars have advanced as far as the conference finals before, and two of our bench players have championship experience, so I don't understand why playoff intensity on the road is such a foreign concept to them. Consider me very worried about this team. We still have a shot -- I remember in Shaq's first championship year in LA, they were pushed to 5 games (in a best-of-five first round series) by the 8th seeded Sacramento Kings, and still managed to win the title. I remember the Suns with Barkely being pushed by the then 8th seeded Lakers (trailing that series to LA 2 games to zero before rallying to take the last 3) and went on to the Finals (though they, like many others, lost to MJ in the Finals). So a team can recover from a bad first round and go deep in the playoffs. But our passivity on the road concerns me.

Just like in the NCAA tournament, in the NBA you need a bit of luck to get out of a series that goes 6 or even 7 games. Ex: Robert Horry.

Oddly enough, it may be best for the Celtics to face Cleveland, then Detroit, then San Antonio (I know, that's really looking ahead - but Atlanta still has not come close to beating us at home). Reason being "young and athletic" are not words that jump to mind when I think of those three teams, and the pace of their games may suit us better. So even though they are the most proven playoff teams ahead of us, the match-up may work more to our advantage, as opposed to Orlando, NO or LA.
