With the late second round picks, is there hope that Ainge can use his extensive overseas scouting, along with Wallaces', to find a gem like the Spurs did when they picked Ginobli with the second to the last pick of the second round?
A lot of europeans may slip under the radar. Guys no one has really heard of or scouted yet. Maybe Ainge, during his frequent trips overseas, has found an unknown guy waiting to be picked.

I am not sure if he will find a Euro w/ one of our second rounders, but I think he will find a college player, JR/SR who didn't play up to his full potential in college, and be very good in the pros. J Williams comes to mind.

If you take a look back at previous drafts, you'll see that a lot of unknown europeans are drafted.
Take last year for example. In the mid to late second round, these unknown euro's were taken:
Albert Miralles Viktor Sanikidze Ha Seung-Jin (some may have heard of him) Sergey Lishchuk Vassilis Spanoulis Sergey Karaulov
With all the scouting Ainge and crew have done, I hope they were able to find a sleeper to take a gamble on with a late second rounder.

btw i would draft robert whaley with one of our second rounders. could be big-time steal. also shavlik randolph stayed in the draft. another possible steal. actually there's a lot of players on the second round who could end up being serious contributors

Last year in the 2nd round of numbers 39-59 only 7 played at all registering stats. (4 of those appear to be Euros) Of the 7 that played they all scored 3 points or less per game except Trevor Ariza who scored 5.9 ppg. That is tied with Chris Duhon for the most points in the 2nd round. The last pick in the 1rst round scored more than that. The 2nd to last pick equaled that. Of picks 30-38 most of them averaged 3 ppg or more. After that there was a dramatic drop off. 2nd rounders aren't usually that valuable but I'd rather have an early 2nd rounder than a late 1rst because of the savings to the salary cap and the flexibility in contract status. This year however is such a deep year the 2nd round could be pretty good. Basically in the second round if you don't have one of the first 8 picks draft a euro. Normally I might not like 2nd rounders but DA seems to do better than average with them.

The odds are, you won't find many production coming from second rounders. I mean, its a gamble even with first rounders. But there's always that hope that you'll find a player who shows some promise at a very early stage and you take a chance on that guy, hoping that he can improve his game year after year.
With 2 late second rounders, Ainge is hoping to find a slider or a sleeper.

You may doubt this but Danny could draft Salim Stoudamire or Gilchrist if a pg is not taken at 18. SS is a 2 guard but he has been projected to go at pick 50 area in some mock drafts. The 2nd round mostly does not have much to offer but you just never know with a gm who drafts well. When I look back, Ariza shoulda been Dannys pick and not Reed though. But, maybe Reed will be better. Only the experts on both those guys know.

I'm not a fan of either guy, but yes, Salim or Gilchrist could be one of our second round picks. I'm hoping that Brandon Bass or Dijon Thompson falls to us.
Actually, it'd be awesome if we move up high enough to grab Nate Robinson in the early second round. This kid is a special player and will be a terrific backup. Could be a starter, but its really hard for a sub 5'10" player to find his place in the NBA. Not all short guys can turn out to be Spud, Mugsy, or Boykins. I'd trade Banks for him in a heartbeat.

Well, they do say Nate would be a top 10 pick if he had 3-4 more inches on him.
