Yeah, our offense may not revolve around a PG like Kidd or Nash under Ainge's era. His vision of our future team may be more like Sacramento's where many players are asked to move the ball around and be smart. Its a more diverse offense and offers different points of attacks. This works too, but you need the right players for this system.

Billups would be a good example too. A scorer but a smart player.

Billups is a unique story. He fits in with Detroit's system. He's not a passing PG per se and he's not just a scoring PG. But ask him to do what Nash does for Phoenix and he will fail. He's a good player who turns out to be a better player in Detroit.
Same with Mike Bibby. He's not a great playmaker, but in Sacramento, he fits in perfectly. Put him in Miami, and he probably won't shine as much as he does with the Kings.
Payton struggled under Tex Winters triangle offense, but let him dictate the offense in Boston and he became more effective.

Exactly. Of course if we can find a Steve Nash we would build around that, but thats going to be tough. Maybe Cousy found te fountain of youth this offseason. When you think about Celtics history he is really the only guy we've had like that. Tiny was good too, but not on Cousy's or Nash's level.
Its funny how we could of still had Billups. Actually its not funny, it's frustrating. We had a very good pg and we let him go just because he was young and we didnt give him a chance to learn the position. WE could of had Parker too. Instead we took Forte. 2 pgs on my list of guys that would be a good fit we could of had currently.

Yeah, frustrating ain't it? If you think about it, we could have had Walker, Pierce, Joe Johnson, and Billups. Even with a crappy Center like Blount in that lineup, we could have been a strong playoff team.
But we are on the verge of something good with this current group of players. Nice recovery by Ainge.
Aside from getting the right PG to play in our system, getting more players who have the smarts to be effective in it is a priority. I like Garcia because of this. He's my pick to be this year's Josh Howard. A backcourt of Delonte and Garcia will be exciting because both guys are dead on shooters from the perimeter, who are also able passers and ball handlers.

Yeah we need shooters, guys that can stretch the defense. Garcia would be a good pick. This is why I dont think Doc is too thrilled with Banks at this point. He shot ok, but his shot is still very inconsistant. I still remember him getting pulled during the Indy series because he wasnt able to hit that open shot off the double. Banks is coming along though.. But he needs to shoot even more consistently if he wants to be a part of this team down the road. I kind of like the Ellis pick. Garcia would be good. Im kind of torn what direction we will go. We still need to become more physical inside as well and find a shot blocker. Maybe Ainge thinks we have enough with Jefferson and Perk coming along though?

I like Garcia because of his all around abilities from the 2 spot. I like Simien because he's a PF with excellent range on his jumper and a sweet touch around the basket (also is a very athletic big man who can run down the court very well).
Banks is still a raw talent, and despite making strides this pass season, he's still got light years more to go before he's a consistent PG. At this point, he's still just a scoring guard trying to play the Point. He has no set up skills (he looks terrible <or uncomfortable is more like it> when running the pick and roll) and he dribbles way too much and too long with no sense of what to do with the ball.
Is Ellis just another Banks?

say no to ellis. we are quite short anyway, we need bigger backcourt and wing players. garcia would be good in that sense. so is webster whom i'd probably take over garcia. can't go wrong also wehen we pick simien. he will be a good energizer off the bench

if ellis really does have all the point guard skills and isnt just a scorer i wouldnt mind looking at him... that much potential its a good risk.

Yet, if a player with great athletic talent is available when we pick, it might be hard to pass on. I would like our team to have a PG 6'2''+, SG 6'4"+ and SF 6'7"+. I know these aren't that tall in NBA terms, but they are minimums I wouldn't mind seeing. BTW - Good to see you again TJ.

I would prefer to take Webster over Ellis, based on what I read. Then again, hard to commentate on players I have never seen, and never seen a few times.

That's why I was trying to see if you guys would agree with a backcourt of Delonte and Ellis--2 shorter combo guards who can shoot the ball, but aren't prototypical PG's.

Tony Allen is gone then if Webster is coming to Boston. I don't see Pierce, Webster, Allen and Ricky all on the same team. Maybe if they draft Webster, they can use Tony Allen to move up to the mid first round with one of our late 2nd round picks and get something else. Maybe just Allen is good enough.
