Jason Kidd is on strike, hoping either the Nets will give him a contract extension, or trade him away. Kidd is still wanting to play for a contender, and he probably won't get his ring with the Nets.
Would you trade away RAllen or Pierce to get Kidd? We'd still have a Trilogy, but just with different names:
KG, Kidd, and Pierce or KG, Kidd, and RAllen
Of course, I doubt we'd trade straight up with New Jersey for two reasons: 1) they don't need another star wing player (they already have Vince and Jefferson), and 2) its not a good idea to trade within your division. So there would have to be a 3rd party involved. And if there could be a multi team trade to get Kidd in Boston, would you do it?
I would.
I think our chances of winning a title will be better with a future Hall of Famer running the team and setting up KG and the other star wing player (either Pierce or Ray). He's still got 2-3 good years ahead of him, and our window of opportunity to win a title is right now.
I think the balance of power is much better having a star big man (Garnett), a star wing player (Pierce or Ray), and a star PG (Kidd).

It strikes me as a little expensive and unnecessary and also another setback to chemistry. I don't know if I'd do it in season. Plus if he's on strike it makes it easier for us to not help them. Maybe we wouldn't have to offer such a good player if he's on strike. I'd have to look at things like money and age and whatnot. Plus I'd have to think we may have to give up something like Rondo. I kinda want to keep our young guys like Perk, Rondo, Big Baby. I want sort of a soft landing when this is all over

Ray is younger by two years. I think that makes a huge difference at this point. And I don't think he ever had the kind of injury Kidd had either

If it ain't broke, why fix it? Both Pierce and R. Allen have more years left in them than Kidd has, IMO.

I dunno. If Kidd was 2-3 years younger I'd do it. But picking up Kidd would lower an already closing window. And like someone else said, this team is playing lights out right now. Tough to mess with this team unless it is a no brainer.

Kid is too much of a malcontent for me to pull the trigger on this deal. 15-2 is proof positive the C's have the right formula in place and don't really need to change the main working cogs to improve function.

It's kind of like trading Tom Brady for Peyton Manning. Some people thing Manning is better. Even if he is I still don't do the trade.

The reason why I'd do the trade is because I feel that getting a PG of Kidd's caliber will make us even more of a contender. Rajon has a lot of potential, but he's not Kidd's caliber (at least not yet). Kidd is one of the best tempo setters, and we're going to benefit big time from a PG of his skill set.
My ideal strong points on a team would be a frontcourt guy, a wing player, and a PG. That's a true balance of power.

No. Pierce is the truth.

From a talent perspective it might work for a 1 to 3 year window, but I can't see giving up the entire careers of Rondo and Davis at the money they will make for like 2 years of Kidd at the money he makes. I think it's not good long term and is totally different from trading AL J for KG. KG is MVP material. Kidd is absolutely not. He's never won anything and can be a problem at times. Plus I like the character of our guys and I have my reservations about Kidd.

I don't want to give up Rondo or Baby, either. I'm thinking about a 1 for 1, or maybe a 2 for 1 for Kidd--either Pierce and a filler for Kidd, or Ray and a filler for Kidd.
Our window of opportunity is not that big either. Our triology, and our main bench players are either in their 30's or will be there shortly. We have to make a run at the championships now.
