According to an article on Red's Army, the Celtics didn't want to cut Batista but his agent asked them to because of opportunities in Europe. That explains why they cut him so far before the others.

His agent, Oscar Moglia, told urubasket.com : “He was not going to be cut, but we’ve asked Boston to rescind due to the few opportunities to play he would have this season.”

Moglia did not reveal if Batista was set to join a new team but he is expected to cross the Atlantic and play in Europe.
