I think Eric Williams played exceptionally well in the "middle" spot, off the bench. He'd come in, play with energy, grab boards, hit putback shots, get to the free throw line, instigate on defense, etc. I enjoyed the lift he gave us.
Ryan Gomes provided this for us (maybe not as much on defense).
But now that he's gone, who will take the "Eric Williams" role?
Big Baby Davis?
Leon Powe?
Brian Scalabrine?

I think the natural backup for the #3 spot is Posey.
For the #4, things will be a bit more interesting. Leon Powe will sure be a very good backup for Garnett at PF, but particulary for Perks at center (we don't have any other true center - maybe Esteban Batista can fit if we sign him). When Leon played at #5 las season he did very well. And Glen Davis has the same versatility in the post, so it will definitely be interesting.

No, I'm talking about the role Eric Williams played. He was the energy guy who came in and did a lot of stuff.
Who'll be that guy for us off the bench?

Could be Eric Williams ... From the Herald www.bostonherald.com/blogs/sports/celtics/?p=131Former Celtic Eric Williams, journeymen big men Kelvin Cato and Linton Johnson, and Esteban Batista, the first Uruguayan to ever play in the NBA, all worked out for the Celtics yesterday. All are expected to continue their workouts today, with coach Doc Rivers and his staff expected to invite at least one and quite possibly two to training camp.

I think Tony Allen will play the 6th man role.

Kelvin Cato? Dude was a decent defensive 5 back in the day, but could he stay healthy?
And to DM, i think Eric Williams will hand over his "Battle Yer Tail Off" crown to Veal during a tearful halftime ceramony this pre-season.

I'm not talking about the 6th man role, necessarily (It could be the 7th, 8th, 9th man role.) I'm talking about the role Eric Williams played--coming off the bench, playing with passion and energy, hustling on the boards, scoring on garbage points, etc. I think Eric Wiliams had a gigantic role for us, as he provided these key characteristics, and I'm seeing who you all think will fill these characteristics for us.

OK I say Posey will do everything you're asking about

Gomes was the next Williams. However, he will be for MN.

I"m thinking Glenn Davis is going to be our next Eric Wiliams. Big Baby's passion and energy will be reminiscent of EWill.

I like Davis. But, if he pulls that salute me m-f stuff, I am going to say "grow up."

Given those choices I'd say Powe. I think Baby wants to be a star and that won't help him right away. I don't think Scala is good enough
