You could very well be right, CF. Finally having this kind of talent surrounding him may take him to the next level.
I've always said that when Pierce plays with fire in his belly, he is dangerous (as in possible 1st tier level for wing players). But there are times when he seems to go through the motions, and that could all be tied in from all the losing he's gone thru. He's still a star level player, even when he's not playing with fierce determination--but if he played with the type of intensity that Lebron and KG plays with, he could be entrenched in the same level as Lebron, Kobe, and Wade.

Pierce is on the second level of swingmen. He is belong the big three of Lebron, Kobe, and Wade. He's floating in the VC, McGrady, Melo group. But to give PP props, I'd prolly rank him at the top of that 2nd teir. The player in that group that I could see as better than Pierce is mcGrady, but his tendency to be injured takes him down a peg or two.

The thing with Pierce and I notice this every time I've seen him in person is that people dont realize sometimes how much of a freak of nature he is athletically. People dont notice that about pierce because he isnt the sleakest player out there, but he is a total freak of nature imo. He is so big, can shoot better than wade. He's bigger than wade. CAn leap and is a tenacious offensive player. I would take Pierce over Wade personally but htat is my bias. Kobe is pretty crazy. His attitude needs some work I still admire Kobe as a player very much so. I think at times he is in a class by himself. Ths is kind of why I think Pierce is underrated though becaue as far as sg's go its Lebron, Kobe, Pierce and you never really hear people mention Pierce in that class. But after this year and a couple championships you will. Emmitt Smith was kind of the same way where people underrated hima nd were like Barry and Payton are so much better, but Emmitt kept amassing yards and championships and eventually got his due. I think Pierce once he wins championships will really be regarded as a great player when he gets inducted in the HOF when you look at his whole career and the stats he put up and the championships he won. I agree, and love the comparison to Emmitt, my favorite player (along with aikman) on my favorite NFL team.

The reason I make the emmitt comparison you look at Emmitt and he doesnt look that athletic but people dont realize what a horse he is. Pierce is kind of the same way. People seem to say someone is athletic because they are fast and can leap and look good doing it. But there are different types of athletes. I also think Emmitt just wanted to be out there and played hard every game and wanted to win. Pierce is the same way in a lot of regards. Toughness is something Pierce and Emmitt had in common I guess is the point. Pierce got stabbed multiple times and bounced back. That says a lot about the type of athlete Pierce is. Emmitt was the guy kind of guy you could ride and you could just keep handing him the ball over and over and he would get stronger from that. Pierce is the same way. He knows how to take punishment.

It's also probably a good thing Pierce kind of had a rest last year of sorts to get him ready for the second half of his career. He had basically played in a ton of games and was starting to wear down and needed the rest last season imo. He should be well rested coming into this year.

I see your point. Pierce is going to be great late in games this year. I can see him driving to the hoop with that power dribble, late in the 4th quarter, in close games dishing out to R.Allen, for a 3, or under the hoop to KG for the slam or foul, or doing what he does (best) as good as anyone in the NBA, drawing fouls. I think Pierce will be our closer this year. He is so strong, when he starts to drive, late in the game he is hard to stop, maybe the hardest in the league, now that the mailman is gone. Who wants to take a charge from that solid 235-240lb frame.
Like Emmitt, IMO Pierce gets stronger as the game goes along, and he likes the pressure of being the man counted on to finish the game, and like Emmitt he usually gets it done.
I would take Pierce over anyone, since jordan (and Miller) to take the last shot in a 1 point game, because he is so hard to stop from driving to the basket.

I also think Rondo will be very hard to keep out of the lane, "impossible" if he improves that 15-18 foot jumper, him and pierce could be real dangers in the half court set's running the P & R with KG and R.Allen.
Wow, I can't wait, the season can't start soon enough. We Celtic fan's deserve some chest pounding, and most of all, a little R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
Let the Quest for #17 begin.

Speaking of chest pounding, the Celtics drafted "big baby" who after the Final 4 game stood up on a table, beating his chest and saying "salute me mother f------"
