Beefy, I'm really sold on Hawes' offensive potential, and I can hardly contain myself thinking of a scoring frontcourt of Jefferson and Hawes. There are absolutely no team out there who can contain our post game with these 2 guys.
And Hawes is a solid rebounder as well. He's got a body that can tangle with some heavier set guys in the NBA, and I know that he won't get tossed around out there in the paint.
My only concern about Hawes, and with teaming him up with Jefferson, is our frontcourt defense. Neither of them are known for their defense, and this is the biggest area we need to see improvement. Yes, we have Perkins, but he'll likely be on the bench if we draft Hawes.

I think the reality is the team is going to have to make the playoffs and show some competitiveness before it will attract high-profile FAs. I'm not pessimistic about this happening. If you add PP, Wally, Tony, a healthy Perk, and the #5 choice to the crew that ended the year, there is reason for optimism. The choice has to be a big. At present, it is only AJ and Perk. Gomes is kind of a nice Don Nelson for this area, but he really can't compete as a big. Scal may be a bit better. I had some hope of Ratliff coming back, but others are't reading it that way.
I think it an encouraging sign that PP declined to join the Team USA thing, to dedicate himself to getting healthy and working on conditioning.
What will GG do? This is his 3rd year. I find it hard to believe that he was farther behind as a HS player than AJ was coming out of that small Mississippi town.
Hopefully Doc has a real feel for each guy. With so many interchangeable part, figuring out who might pair up well with one or two other particular guys could help greatly.
I would expect DA to look at veteran PGs who might be available and willing to come aboard with expectations of low amounts of PT. And how he can squeeze such a guy onto the 15 man roster.

Let's realistically look at what the Cs actually have already.
1. Pierce, an All-Star caliber player who should be able to stay at that level for at least 2 -3 more years. 2. Jefferson, a budding 20-10 post player. 3. Rondo, a rookie who's only a jump shot away from being a very, very good PG. 4. Gerald, tremendous talent who's heading into what is usually the "breakout" season for HS guys. Yeah, he's probably not another Tracey McGrady...but he could be a Rashard Lewis. 5. West, Gomes, Perk and Scal, all decent role players (at least). 6. Wally, banged up and overpaid but still a legitimate scoring threat off the bench. 7. 5th pick in a deep draft. 8. TA, becoming a quality starter before his second knee injury. 9. A really bad coach.
Until #9 is changed, it makes no sense to do anything drastic with this roster. Look at the T-Wolves last season - 20 and 20 with Dwayne Casey, 12 and 30 with Randy Whitman. Look at the Bulls. Pierce is better than anyone they have. Al could very quickly become bettter than anyone they have. After Deng, Hinrich and Gordon, Chicago's roster isn't THAT much more talented than the Cs. Yet they've been dramatically better over the last two years.
Getting a better coach wouldn't solve all the Cs problems, but you can't really solve ANY of their problems until they do.

This is probably the best argument I've seen for getting rid of Doc. I only want to give him another year to see what happens

This is probably the best argument I've seen for getting rid of Doc. I only want to give him another year to see what happens Bringing Doc back to finish out his contract wouldn't necessarily have been a bad idea. But they gave him an extension and now I'm terrified that even if Gerald becomes Rashard Lewis and Rondo becomes Fat Lever, we're doomed to Doc leading us to 45 wins and 1st round playoff losses for the next 3 years. Mike I think Doc has to keep making progress to survive. If we make the playoffs after finishing 2nd worst I think a lot of people will be happy. Then the next year we have to get to the 2nd round. If those things don't happen he won't be around much longer. I don't even mind so much as long as we make progress. A 2nd round exit isn't too bad for a bunch of 24 year olds. I will be fine with it even if old man Pierce is crying that the sky is falling

Mike A Fat Lever reference? You've just earned yourself a koolaid point. If you mention Fat Lever, you will get a Koolaid point. That's my promise to the fine men and women of Celticsgreen.
