The thing with Durant is I don't think wing players impact a game like a big guy can. Wing players are what they are, they are primarily scorers but they don't change the whole complexity of the game the same way. One diff with between Durant and your average wing is that Durant is aparty animal on the glass. I'm not really sure about that part of Durants game. Thats why I'd still take Lebron over Durant. We already know that Lebron has the instincts of a champion. And like Ive stated before, I dont look at Durant as just a wing. Dude us 6'10' with a 7'3" wingspan. He will fill out, just like KG did. Durant will end up being a PF in the NBA.

You know how there are "tweeners" who supposedly aren't fast enough or good enough of a shooter to be a sf, but are too small and short to be a pf? Well what is the exact oppositte of a tweener? Like someone that is too tall and rebounds too well to be a sf, but ball handles, and shoots too well to be a pf? Cause that's what Durant is. Cause of his weight he projects to sf for now, but I don't know. The only other guy like that seemed to be Barkely playing pf at 6 ft 4.

I can see Durant playing the 4 and doign a good job of it. I think he is a new kind of player. He is basically the athetic version of Bird or Dirk imo...... Not necessarily as smart but his numbers and his ability to play multiple positions will be similar. Bird played the PF spot but he was better at SF. Dirk is kind of the same way.
I guess hte point is you can have Durant and he can lead you far, by what he can do, but in order to win with a player like that you need a good front line. Dirk was able to get there because he has Dampier and Diop who are beefy and solid, but wasn't able to beat Shaq and Wade. Bird was able to win because the C's had a dominant front line to go with him. If Durant is going to win he's probably a SF that can play the PF spot at times. Durant, Jefferson, Perk could be really good. But the thing is we have Pierce. I still say Pierce is really good and people are kind of quick to cast him off, when we already have a very good player like that who wants to win and is ready to win. Durant is going to take a while to mature.
What gives the Celtics a better chance of winning. Drafting Durant and trying to trade Pierce? Or trading the pick and going with Gasol, Jefferson and Pierce or something along those lines? I tend to think Pierce, JEfferson, Gasol gives us a better chance to win. I don't know.. Durant, Jefferson is tempting and would be exciting but it will also take patience and starting over in a lot of regards.

Good point. I guess it would have a lot to do with what happens with PP, TA, GG, and Wally. Plus if Bassy could ever be put on the court Delonte could play some minutes at sg as well.

The thing with Durant is I don't think he has the passing ability or IQ to be close to the floor leader Bird was. He is probably closer to an athetic version of DIrk Nowitski. I think he will be dominant but he could be a cross between Tracy Mcgrady and Kevin Garnett. I'm not sure he makes any team a contender in other words. I think Durant is very good but I also think people overrate him as well like I was saying before because he is on a very inexperienced team and he's able to do whatever he wants and is hoisting up a lot of shots.

Ok, but I'd take Dirk over Zo or Ewing any day. Or Brand. Or Emeka.

So would I. Durant is going to be a very good player. I don't think anyone is questioning that.

I've been watching a lot of basketball of late and I'm convinced big men win though. Can you tell? People were hyping UCLA because of their guard play and saying they were the team to beat now, and were probably going to win it all and they go out and lose to Spencer Hawes. Ohio State keeps rolling and is going to win the NCAA imo. Oden will be a freshman and will lead his team to the championship and will be the #1 pick if he comes out. I'm calling it now.

I don't know. I think maybe good team play like Florida could beat them. Ohio St has other good player people forget about

I think teams that have big men are going to be really successful in the tourney though. Teams like Washington with Hawes, Pitt with Gray, Georgetown with Hibbert. These are all teams that are going to do well.

I don't think its a debate whether or not we should take Oden with the 1st overall pick. IMO, its an easy call--you go with Oden. I'd have a hard time trading Jefferson in order to get Oden (and I don't think any GM would do it anyways), but I'd definitely trade Pierce. I don't think Oden will be a big time scorer in the NBA, but I do think he can be a dominant defensive presence ala Mutombo, Olajuwon, and Russell. I'd so much like to pair Oden up with Jefferson.
But the consolation prize being Durant is also highly appealing. On a small team, you can play Durant at PF, but you won't get far in the playoffs, and especially the Finals, using Durant at the 4. Amare will knock him on his behind with no problem. He's a true SF--a quicker version of McGrady.

Speaking of georgetown i meant to say today that I was watching the Georgetown game for a minute and I thought they were showing Cedric the Entertainer. Like I thought there was a celebrity sighting. I really thought it was him and it turned out to be Patrick ewing. Totally freaked me out

These are all teams that are going to do well. Exactly, CF. I've stated previously that I think we can win even without Oden, if we draft a big man like Hawes or Gray or Noah. I'm slightly interested in Roy Hibbert but will have to see more of him before I give my comments on him.

There's that slow footed white giant from Nevada who is crazy good too. I'm not sure how good a pro he will be though. But he is really tall.
