Take a good look at these 2 scenarios and pick which one you'd rather have:
Choice #1: We draft Oden with the 1st overall pick, and add him to the collection of players we have now:
Oden Jefferson Pierce Gerald Rajon
or
Choice #2: We draft Kevin Durant with the 2nd overall pick and then trade Pierce to the Grizzlies for Pau Gasol.
Gasol Jefferson Durant Gerald Rajon
Which one sounds like the route to Banner #17?

I'm picking choice #2 and the reason why is I'd way rather defend against #1. If I were the Pistons for example I'd be like "we're gonna match up and beat em. Billups can beat Rondo, Hamilton can beat GG, Tayshaun can defend PP pretty well, and Webber and Rasheed can match up pretty decent against their bigs."
Choice #2 is a whole different animal.

I'll take what's behind door number 2. I was just watching Durant against Kansas and he is impressive. Oden would be dominant and it is hard to pass on a 7 footer. But I think the second choice would be a very exciting team.

Eja, you are looking at our guys and comparing them to their counterparts at the stages they are at now. In a few years, Gerald has a really good chances at being better than Hamilton. Physically, Rajon cannot stand toe to toe with Billups--but Billups also cannot stay with Rajon's speed and elusiveness. In a few years, Webber will be out of the league and Rasheed is going to be a player closing in on retirement. I like the possibilities of the 2nd choice as well. With Gasol and Durant added to the team, all of a sudden, we get longer, taller, more athletic, and a lot more offensive. Adding them two to Jefferson and Gerald gives us 4 players who are capable of putting up big scoring numbers on any given night. That's a hard team to stop offensively, and very exciting to watch. If this is the scenario we end up with, Ainge needs to make sure we get a defensive guru to get our team playing solid defense. We will outshoot and outscore every team in the league, but without solid defense, we will not dominate.

Well the Pistons aren't the point. It could be the Bobcats or the Magic or whatever. I just thought the first lineup was more conventional and the 2nd gave us a lot more possibilities even if those players didn't reach their pword

The 2nd choice gives our team a more dynamic look, with tough matchups at every position. Teams can't possibly double team any one of those 4 guys.

I'd take Oden. Durant is a very exciting player but I still don't see how you can pass up the best freshman big man in college since Shaq. People need to remember Durant has basically been given free reign on a very inexperienced team. He's doing a great job, but I tend to think Oden is just as dominant. Put Oden on Texas and see what he does. Just look at what Oden has done for Ohio St. Which team is better? A think a dominant 7 footer is the biggest matchup problem you can possibly have and look at any team that wins for the most part. Oden is basically doing what Duncan did for Wake Forest as a freshman. It took Duncan a few years...... Texas has had a solid year but they are not in the same class.

There are 4 wings in the history of the league that I think were like nearly autochampion level
Bird Durant Lebron MJ
A couple pgs Magic Isaiah Nash Stockton
And a couple big men Wilt Russell Shaq Hakeem Duncan
I'm not sure Oden is on that list. Maybe he is. I'm not sure Durant should be there either. We've seen a lot of other good but not phenomenal bigs like Ewing and Zo. It could go either way. All I know is that right now Oden looks like a very good prospect and Durant looks like one of the 15 best players alive who just happens to be in college.
I used to wish a guy like Lebron would go to school and after seeing Durant I'm not sure it would have been a good idea. It doesn't look fair

Right you are, CF. Oden is playing in a system, and that's why he isn't putting up big numbers (Durant has free reign to hoist up shots at will). I think he's even tamed down his defensive enthusiasm in order to avoid picking up cheap fouls. Basically, it appears to me that Oden is toning his game.
If we get the 1st overall pick, I would not want Ainge to pass up Oden. But getting the 2nd overall pick and taking Durant is also a tempting proposal.

It's nothing against Durant. He is awesome, and we'd be stupid not to be talking about him, but I still take Oden and win.

I don't see how you can put Lebron as autochampion level EJA. And not put Kobe. Kobe is better than Lebron imo... It could be argued Dwayne Wade is better than Lebron. If you are going to put Lebron up there, where is Dirk?

This is all a very nice problem to have. We are basically deciding between the best freshmen big man ever and the best freshman swing man ever. We won't know the answer to this for 4 years.

If we get Oden, I'd love to see us swing a trade of Ratliff's contrtact and some youngns for Mike Bibby. He's can shoot from outside, has tons of exxperience, and his contract runs out in three seasons, just in time to resign Rondo if he is worthy of a long-term commitment.

Well first of all Kobe wasn't autochampion level on the day he was drafted, and secondly without Shaq he's as good as ... Dwayne Wade without Shaq. He's good but he's not MJ. He's not so totally different from the TMacs or Vince Carters, whereas MJ was different from everyone and I think Lebron is too depsite the down year. And even Bron is going to have a tough time if the only help he ever gets is Larry always hurt Hughes

Ooooh, that's a hard one to put my foot down on. Lebron vs. Kobe. Who's better. I really don't like Kobe and I'm a fan of Lebron, but I can't say with sincerity that Lebron is the better player. Kobe is just a fantastic scorer.
But if I had to choose my team, I'm taking Lebron.
