And I think Ainge set this up in two ways: The financial deal of LaFrentz, Dickau and #7 to Portland for Telfair (BUST) and Ratliffe (cripple). Sure we got Rondo but that was at #21 or #22 which is a lot cheaper RC than #7. Also bought the #45 pick Leon Powe. Doc does not play the rookies unless he has to. Next, he retained Doc Rivers who is being compared to Clive Rush (Patriots coach circa 1970) by Dan Shaugnessy (who is my peer except he gets paid to be a sports media troll) as the worst coach in Boston Sports History. Combine that with the pervasive bad luck and the injury epidemic the Celtics have had and this is the perfect storm that sank the Celtics ship into that Black Hole. Who is Boston's strength and conditioning coach? What about that off-season hard work and dedication to get better? The only way out of this very negative conundrum is to land the No 1 or 2 pick to keep Pierce from demanding a trade this summer. Once the lead rat escapes from the ship, the rest will follow and we will be stuck with overpaid Scalabrines, the jumbotron, and the Celtic dancing girls . This is it, I'm pidgeonholing myself on the NBA board. I'm waking up with a terrible hangover of the green-koolaid spiked with Vodka and mixing it with my Sammy's. Some day the Celtics will come back to prominance but I may not be alive to see that, unfortunately.

Hold on all. In no order if we get the #1 or 2 pick maybe in two years, especially if TA comes back healthy (and I give you good odds one or both of those things happens) Doc could look like a great coach. Especially if just one more young guy steps up. Like Rondo or GG.
Next there is no way the Al Js and Delontes are overpaid Scalas. No way.
Next just to review something else I would say that the old Toine trade doesn't look so good cause he was an all-star only a few years from free agency and we traded back for him anyway, but if either TA or Delonte or Bassy ever go to more than one all-star game that trade is suddenly not so bad. Even if they win 6th man of the year or all-defensive team (TA?) and especially if they do it at a respectable salary.

Also one good thing about the TA injury is that if he is coming back and we are looking at his knee and it looks good we could resign him to less than the mid-level for maybe 3 years with a team option. I wonder how little he could be offered with nobody matching.

I was primarily talking about this season being doomed but there is a real danger that the future is going to be bleak if all the negative breaks keep happening to us. Allen has had two serious knee injuries and that could limit his career in the long run.
Negative happenings:
We end up with the 4 pick.
Pierce demands a trade.
Allen is limited due to his knees.
Doc is retained to save money for the last year of his contract.
Wyc and Danny can't resign Al Jefferson, Gomes, and West to decent contracts.
Where are we in two years? What is the worst case scenario? What can be done to reverse the downward spiral and the depressed state of the Celtics?

I refuse to be sucked into negativism. I look on the bright side. We do have young talent who are going to get better. I hear announcers say every game how good Green is going to be. I just hope Danny hangs on to him and lets him develop on the Celtics or we will be sorry. Al J is becoming a beast inside and is only going to get better. Even without the 1st or 2nd pick in the draft we will get a good player who can play right away but we very well may get the 1st or 2nd pick. We are certainly due some good luck. And Rondo is going to be a top PG. He has all the tools and just needs a little experience to break out. He works hard enough that he will have a jumper by next year also. Powe is a player and if given playing time and a chance to prove it is going to be very good. Perk has been playing injured and will get healthy over the summer and surprise a lot of people. I don't think that things are as bleak as they seem. My greatest hope is that Doc is fired after the season and we get a coach who can run an uptempo team and who believes that defense is worth working on. Don't give up yet. We may be in a nightmare season now. But joy cometh in the morning... Have a glass of green koolaid and relax. Things are going to get better.

To counter your points I'd say this
The projected top 5 big men (unless you call Durant a small man) in the draft are good enough to help reasonably quickly (except maybe B Wright) so I won't kill myself over the 4th pick.
I doubt PP will demand a trade. I think he'd at least wait till the half way point next year. Also it would be surprising if he demands a trade when we are getting better and just extended him and just cause you ask one doesn't mean you get one. He's been very cool despite a lot of junk publicly. He probably has already privately told management if he were traded he'd be professional and not against the idea but he's dedicated to us at least for now.
Doc pretty much has to be fired since he has the longest losing streak in our history but if we actually gave him one more healthy season to prove himself then that's what we'd do.
As long as we treat our guys fairly they'll probably resign mostly. It's not like they're the hottest commodities in the league. Gomes in particular should be an easy sign since he's close to Providence.
Most every player in the world would be open to signing or resigning with a team with an Oden, PP, and Al J.
TA beat one leg injury. Powe beat two. Other athletes have beat this as well. Even if he doesn't we won't lose tons of money. Plus he could be traded.
I'm not giving in to pessism either. I like this season way more than ho hum seasons we just barely made or missed the playoffs and got terrible draft positions. Now we're playing young guys and getting good picks the way we should have years ago.

Q, if you bleed green, you bleed green through the good times and the bad times. Don't be a part time Celtics fan (and I know you're not).

One aspect that has been slightly discussed is that because of circumstances, the team will be able to sign there core players to non-max contracts. Example - Perkins extension.
Does anyone get the feeling if certain players were given the minutes, they would have better stats?

Yes I do. I think our PG's aren't being used to their capabilities, and if they were, they'd have much better stats. If Leon Powe was given playing time, he'd put up nice stats. If Jefferson was given the ball more consistently, he'd be putting up 20 ppg.

Well I'm going to shut her down and get a green blood transfusion and maybe a bypass surgery and strengthen that Green ticker. Wake me up when we get a new coach.
