A year from now, we'll all get a laugh out of the idea that Gasol would help this team more than DurantYou've got to read the context in which this was stated. If we have Paul Pierce, we've already got our All-Star wing player and clutch performer. Yes, having Durant would be wonderful, but not as much as a need as having a stud 7 foot big man next to Jefferson. I understand that we could use a big man more than another wing, but Durant is going to be the kind of player that you fit your roster around.

If you have the opportunity to draft Durant - you draft him.
If you have the opportunity to draft Oden or Durant - take Oden the next great Center.
About the Celtics being the best team to draft #1 - well that is a reach. The Knicks lucked into Patrick Ewing back in the 1980's. Spurs had David Robinson back in 1997. Now they have 3 NBA titles.
The Celtics are just way too young for their own good and the pickle they are in is going to be difficult without getting Oden or Durant. They need Gold and Silver Medal players on their team. Right now - they have a Bronze Medal player in Pierce and hope that Jefferson, Green, Rondo, and Allen become medal players. West, Gomes, Perkins, Scalabrine are what they are - solid role players. Powe has had no chance to prove himself much to everyone here's chagrin. I wish we could trade Olowakandi for Potapenko. Ratliffe, Telfair, Allan Ray are outsiders at this point. Sczerbiak, I wish I knew what he is capable of, if he was 100% healthy. We may never find out.
Doc Rivers has to be replaced for next year. Danny Ainge may also have to be replaced so the players get a chance at a 2nd opinion.
I am not one to sit here to tell you things will improve and this horrible season is an aberration. There are deficiencies and breakdowns at every level of this organization and whatever is tried just seems to make things worse. I see no way other than hard work and the drive to improve for the Celtics to break this very negative cycle unless they catch a break at the lottery and the key players declare. We are who we are and that is one of the very worst teams in NBA history.

I agree, and if that's the case and we land Durant, I'd look to move Pierce for a stud big man, if possible. Durant is a more versatile Paul Pierce because he's longer, quicker, and a deadlier scorer.

Eja, you've doubted Jefferson very much, but yet you don't have that same type of negativity towards Thabeet, who doesn't have Jefferson's potential. Not sure I understand why. Actually it's not so much that I'm not negative on Thabeet. I think whoever gets him will be waiting for many loooonnnggg years. It's just that if we don't get one of thetop 4 picks or I was a team without one of the top 4 I'd have to consider the 7 foot plus guy, and say what you want but 7 foot plus is one thing Thabeet can say that Al J can't. Also I'm still not a fan of just declaring one 20 year old's ceiling higher than some 18 year old's. Even though I do think Al is more talented. I guess we'd know in 2 and a half years.
