Imagine us getting Greg Oden and keeping all the players we have now. That is going to be a scary team.
Oden / Perk Jefferson / Gomes / Powe Gerald / Tony / Wally Pierce / Delonte / Ray Rajon / Telfair
Unbelievable. Cross your fingers Celtics fans and hope this happens!!!

Sigh - Just like 10 years ago when I imagined getting Tim Duncan and Kieth Van Horn......
Man, I learn not to get your hopes up in this business.

That is the best case scenario Derren and I hope it happens, but who knows if it will. A lot of things need to fall into place for it to. And what if it doesn't happen? Then what?

I like the lineup of Rondo, Pierce, Gerald and Jefferson. Allen(you probably could swap Allen with Green if he comes back healthy and use Green as the 6th man, until it's time for him to take Pierce's place), West, Powe, Perk are good bench guys. SAme with Scal and Gomes although we could always deal these guys. I'm not sold on Telfair at all..... If I'm looking at the roster, we definately need a Center.. Whether we draft one, and get the cream of the crop in Oden, or we settle for something less in the draft or we trade the pick along with Gomes and Telfair to get someone like GAsol, that is the question. But that move is pretty much going to put this roster in place for a long time and will determine the success of this team in a lot of ways. I just hope we dont screw it up.

Ultimately I'd like to see a lineup of
PG-Rondo SG-Pierce SF-Allen or Green PF-Jefferson C- X
Bench Allen or Green as the 6th man West backing up the point and the 2 guard Powe Perk
That gives us a 9 man rotation which is realistic once we are actually good. That leaves room for a 10th and 11th guy to get spot minutes and whether Scal can be that, or Gomes that is the question. Right now we have Gomes and Powe and battling it out for a spot in the rotation. I don't see us keeping both. Wally is still here spelling Green because he is still green, but he's hurt and will be out of the equation soon enough. If Allen, Green and Pierce, West and Ray too are all healthy and playing well, there is no need for Wally. Ray is a guy that could make the 12 man roster as an extra guard to sit the bench and play spot minutes and provide depth. I see things shaping up as these position battles go on more and more. And I see guys like Telfair, Gomes, Wally potentially figuring out of the mix completely and they are too good to keep as 10, 11, and 12 guys so I see us making a trade at some point. The best case scenario would be to draft Oden and then trade Telfair, Wally and Gomes for a decent bench guy(experienced big) but who knows if that will happen.

Agreed. Hopefully, Tony will come back fully recovered from his nightmare injury and still have his game intact.
I'm not sold on Telfair at all
Just be patient with him. Give him some time to adjust. He's a young and brashful kid who has played one way all his life and is now adjusting to a different way of playing professional basketball.

Agreed. Oden is at the top of my list. But after him, Noah, Hawes, and to a lesser extent, Aaron Gray, would be the next draftees in line. If those fall through, make a pursuit for Gasol.

It's not like I don't think Telfair will be a good player Derren. I see his strengths and the type of player he can be. I'm just not sure if he is the type of pg I want on this team ultimately. I like the combination of Rondo and West better. Someone has to go ultimately I would guess. We need 3 players that can play the position, but Telfair seems like a guy that won't be happy unless he starts, and I would much rather go with Rondo. And I like West's smarts and versatility and shooting. I think he is the perfect backup guard for this team. I understand we are in no rush here and we can let it play out and see what happens. I also see Telfair as a weak link defensively, but he is quick and can do a lot of things scoring and igniting the break with his creativity and quickness. Maybe he will find a role here, and play some good years for us. Who knows. Somewhere down the line the c's are going to have to make a decision though, because it's going to be really difficult to get Rondo, West and Telfair the time they will deserve.

Telfair could be a marbury or a tim hardaway type. I know that. He has a lot to learn though, and do we really want to sit on him and wait, when we have 2 other young pgs named Rondo and West who are pretty good too? I'm just not sure if he is what we need, and if we could get an experienced big man who can come off the bench and really make a difference for say him and Wally, I would think the C's would have to think long and hard about that. Even Gomes would figure in the mix. And I know the C's would probably be giving up the better end of that deal, but if we land oden we are going to have way too many young players to get time here, when eventually we need to trim things down a bit and go with a rotation and start winning.
Say we land Oden. I would probably try to deal Telfair, Gomes and Wally for a experienced big man to come in and an experienced pg to spell Rondo and West, and sit on the bench a lot too and just teach these guys and add some stability.

I just don't see Pierce being happy staying on a team this young, he is already clamoring for the C's to trade the pick for more veteran help. Whilst I understand where he is coming from, a frustrated player in his prime attempting to win a championship, I just don't think it is prudent for the C's to trade the pick at this point. You would end up getting some retreat superstar on the downside of his career or at best a guy like Gasol. If you do that you really are hemming yourself in with that kind of a system. At this point I think it will be a one or the other kind of situation where we either say we are going to take the top 4 pick (i assume it will be at least a 4) and are forced to appease Pierce or we give up the chance at Oden/Durant for someone else who is making a near max deal. To me I'd rather move Pierce for equal parts of someone like a Joe Johnson (not him specifically) but someone that is willing to go to a rebuilding squad and work through it while he is relatively young. If we can get Oden/Durant and Pierce doesn't mind working through it then horray for the C's but I don't see it happening, but we can dream right?

I think after the hand injury he would be stupid to risk his chance at the NBA again at OSU, if he gets something serious it would be a waste of talent and kill the C's again

That's a really good point on the hand injury. I never thought of that. exalt
