Hi guys, sorry I haven't chimed in much this year. I actually read this board daily, so there is no excuse. This isn't bad news at all. Now, I know some of you are of thought that intentionally tanking or even appearing to be tanking is bad for the long term health of a franchise. I mean, if I'm a player busting my butt every night, trying to improve and win games, and I feel Management is making decisions to intentionally lose basketball games, then I'm going to be pissed and quit playing with any type of effort. I also would take myself out of games for anything more serious then a hang nail.
However, that is not the case with the Celtics. I dont' believe Danny Ainge asked Paul Pierce in a closed door meeting to suffer a stress reaction in his foot (what is a stress reaction anyways), and I don't believe he asked Wally to sprain both his ankles, come back too soon and injure his knee. I also don't believe Wyc was on his cell asking Tony Allen to attempt a meaningless dunk and fall awkwardly on his knee so that he could tear all 3 tendons. The same goes for Perks plantar fascitous, Delonte's cornopopia of injuries (which he receives from playing too hard), not to mention Ratliff's back issues.
This team, which was a bubble playoff team at best, has simply been a victim of bad luck. That's it. And when barely .500 team loses it's best players, guess what happens....that team becomes a doormat. It's not that Gerald, Al, Delonte, Rondo and co. aren't talented players...it's that when they are on the floor together, they just don't have the experience or mental toughness yet to win games. They probably did lose a lot of their spirit when the injuries kept coming. Every time it looked like they would start to gel, another key player got injured. And like I mentioned, they just don't have the mental toughness to overcome that yet. I mean, it took the Bulls a long time to develop into what they are now. That team had several lottery picks, traded the bad ones (see Eddy Curry and Tyson Chandler), developed the good ones (see Luo Deng, Kirck Hinrich, and Ben Gordon amongst others) and added some veterans (see PJ Brown and Ben Wallace) when the young guys were ready to win.
Now, if the Celtics do end up with a one of the three worst records in the league, they have an opportunity to land a player who will turn the course of recent history around for that team. Greg Oden, is in my eyes, the best player since Lebron and best big man since Duncan coming out of the draft. I also understand, that even with the worst record, they are not guaranteed Oden. They may not land the #1 pick, or Oden may opt to stay in college. I am willing to take that chance and bet on fate. Say what you want, and I'm not much of a believe in this stuff....but is Red actually smiling down right now? Has he erased the Len Bias Curse if and where it existed. For some wierd reason, I really like our chances come late June...

We've lost like 14 in a row. That's more than just being a victim of bad luck lol. I'm all for the green and the blind leading the blind here, I'd love to get a good player int he draft, but it would be nice to be realistic. This team is pretty (censored) bad.

I dont thing greenblood is saying that we arent bad. We were a 30-40 win team with Pierce, and without him? Well the results speak for themselves. Crap-tastic.

I guess that 33 win team of last year did not lie to us. The problem is that the rest of the teams improved while we got worse (with the LaFrentz and our 1st pick - Ga$tonlike deal) so this really promised to be another difficult year. Add in the injuries and we became the worst team in the league.
Any word on Pierce's elbow?

The news this morning said that he is in the hospital and will be there for a couple of days while they treat the infection. They also said that they lanced the elbow and drained it when he returned to Boston. They don't expect him back now until after the All Star game.

That sounds like a gross injury.
