Post by The Eye of the Q is upon you! on Feb 1, 2007 13:03:13 GMT -5
I urge you to give a motivivational speech to the players and the coaching staff that you are the representatives of a great sports tradition and now that Red Auerbach has died, he is looking down upon you and shaking his head in disgust. No team has ever gotten ahead by tanking. Don't look to GM's of other teams to help you out of Boston. You kids are stuck with each other for better or worse. You are all replaceable. Not all of are guarenteed new contracts after your rookie deals expire.
And this message is for Doc Rivers - How dedicated are you to the job of coaching the Celtics? Are you doing everything you can to prepare the Celtics for success? Before the injuries you blew some coaching opportunities for the Celtics to win. Now it is too late to save this season and your coaching career.
And this message for Danny Ainge - what prompted you to become the youngest team in the league and field basically a NCAA basketball playing in a man's league. How is your crack scouting staff finding those players?
And this message to the owners - are you fooling the Celtics fans into thinking the future is bright when the pundits out there say the future is doomed. Ga$ton sold you a bag of poohpooh. Are you in it to restore the tradition or to make a buck? Seems like the odds are very much against you of doing either.
And this message to the media - LAY INTO THEM AND SHOW AS MUCH TOUGH LOVE DURING THIS 6 WEEK WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY BETWEEN PATRIOTS FOOTBALL AND RED SOX BASEBALL.

Great post. Our owners had to hear the celtic faithful chanting kobe's name throughout the building last night. What a freakin disgrace, how can you ever cheer for an opposing player, and a laker at that. Maybe it was a way for the fans to lashout at ownership, but it was a disgrace. You don't give fuel to the visting team by cheering for them. Doc rivers must be gone, what the hell are we waiting for? Casey for the timberwolves was just released and his team was in the playoffs.
A message must be sent, that old-time, diehard celtic fans will not tolerate this. We're the laughing stock of the league.

No team has ever gotten ahead by tanking. I think the San Antonio Spurs have three championship titles that would like to argue about this. Also, can we really say that were tanking? Do we know for sure that Pierce could be playing right now? We know for sure that Allen cant be playing. Wally and Perk's performance shows that theyre trying to tough it out while playing with injuries. Id dont think were tanking(yet). We are just a really, really bad team without Pierce.

I don't think we are tanking outright (though some of Doc's coaching leads one to think he's trying to put us in losing situations). There's no way that these bunch of young guys can win consistently on hustle alone. This is the NBA and not some Saturday morning basketball league. Experience, knowing what to do and knowing how to play as a team are important keys to winning, and quite frankly, these young guys can't possibly be expected to have these ingredients under their belts.
I was also upset that there were fans cheering for Kobe last night. That should never happen at the Garden.

I was also upset that there were fans cheering for Kobe last night. That should never happen at the Garden. It does stink, but its hardly new for us. I remember a lot of Bulls-Celtics games in the mid to late 90s in which a good chunk of the people were there for Jordan.

I was watching the lakers game and you could see there were a lot of Kobe fans in the stands. Thats why Kobe got so many cheers. The building was packed but it was only because of Kobe. You could see a lot of Kobe jerseys everywhere. I agree with you guys that it was a disgrace listening to all the Kobe cheers and high fives. Remember the fans chanting wife beater to Jason Kidd while they wore wife beater shirts to the crappy fleet center. This team has a bright future and we will start to see it next year. Delonte, Jefferson, and Allen will be starting their fourth season in the league and Pierce is still only 29 which is when players enter their prime. If you add Gomes to that list plus the lottery pick from one of the deepest drafts in recent years plus the fact that Miami is on their way down, so are New Jersey and the Pistons. everyone will see how good this team will be. Like Red said when they asked him why did he draft Larry Bird Knowing that he wouldn't leave college for another year. "Do you know how short of a period of time a year is".

Good thoughts, Beefy. I'm with you in that I see good things coming from this group of players we have. I don't think we have all the pieces we need to be contenders in 3 - 5 years, but that may change depending on the draft. I look at our team and see a lot of solid players, but only 3 1/2 high level players (Pierce, Jefferson, Gerald, and Wally). If this draft nets us a stud big man, we are in good shape for the next decade.

Mark Cuban said it best that every team, w/ the exception of one or two, is a sprained ankle from middle of the pack.
If Pierce really has a stress fracture, he is done for the season.
