Well, do you gamble on Jefferson becoming the next Karl Malone or do you take a proven player in Pau Gasol.
As much as I like Al Jefferson, I would have to take Pau Gasol. There are other deals I would like to make, too.

Successful Scenario Due to Memphis and Boston being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Memphis and Boston had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Not many of you care for this concept but it will take a special effort from Danny Ainge to get Gasol in a Boston uniform. They still have their draft pick and I did ask for Rudy Gay and Stromile Swift. Starting next year, the Celtics have a three to five year opportunity to compete at least in the East. I kept West and Tony Allen for the backcourt. Memphis gets to sort out our mess and build a team around Al Jefferson and possibly Gerald Green.

Let me make this clear. I don't want to be or become the Grizzlies. This whole trade Al for Gasol thing is getting dumb. Really dumb. This is dumber than when the Blazers traded Jermaine O'Neal. Way dumber. If Al were coming out in this draft right now he'd go no lower than #2. Here. Here's a 21 yer old averaging 16 and 10. You take him. We don't want him. It's all we ever wanted. Now we have it. Now people are talking about throwing it away for a guy whose career is half over. By the way. Guess how much salary comes off the books next year? 10 million. The year after that another $11.6. It could be $14 if we don't resign Bassy. We are in the middle of the league on salary.

Gasol is a proven non-all star. Well actually that's not true. He went once. The same number of times as Jamaal Maglore, Dale Davis and Wally. That's also less times than Vin Baker.

Blazers did botch the Jermaine O'Neal situation. Boston offered their 3 #1's for Jermaine O'Neal and was declined. That was a bad thing for them and for us. Actually we are 20th in the league in salary and not much comes off the books next year. In 2008 we lose Ratliffe's salary and I suppose Bassy will also be let go. I just hope Tony Allen comes back next year and earns his big payday he's got coming to him. So, I am thinking we sit tight and wait for our high draft pick, oh and of course replace the stinking coach.

We also lose Luke Jackson and Kandi's salary and Brian Grant and the 50 Grand we guaranteed Pittsnogle. That's like another 5mill. That means we should go down from about 16th in salary to about 26th as long as nobody else drops more salary. Approximately.

As they say, some of the best trades are the ones never made.
