OK, there are talks about us going after Gasol (which I'm in favor of). But giving Jefferson away is not good. Jefferson must stay here. I'd give up Gerald first before I give up Jefferson, if it had to come down between the two.
So if Memphis would take Green, our 1st round pick and Theo's expiring contract for Gasol (or a package somewhere in this vicinity), would this be good for us?
I think yes. Here's why.
When Pierce and Wally come back this season, we are going to play ourselves out of the high lottery pick. With Jefferson playing as well as he has, Pierce and Wally will come back to an improved team.
So we can already say good bye to Oden, Durant, Noah and Hawes.
So with this in mind, if we grab Gasol and put him next to Jefferson and Pierce, we have a pretty strong scoring trio, maybe the best in the league. That's a trio that can compete with the league's best trio.
But if we hold onto our 1st round pick and don't make the trade for Gasol, we absolutely must grab either Oden or Durant. But it'll be difficult with Pierce and Wally returning.

We're selling our season to have a remote shot at getting top 2 pick in this year draft. That's a huge risk compare taking on Gasol and his contract. Atleast we know what we're getting with Gasol coming to Boston (19pts 8-10 rebs 4 ast per game).
I wouldn't be too upset that we gave up the chance to have Oden or Durant if we're winning ball-games with the trio of Pierce, Gasol and Jefferson.

But, Who here would be absolutely upset if we give up Al Jefferson for Gasol?
I would love to pair them together but, you can't deny Gasol is alot more talented than Jefferson and has taken a western conference team to the playoffs for the past two years (exception this year).

At the age of 21 Gasol averaged 17.5 and 9 in his rookie year. At the age of 21 this year since Dec 9 Al has averaged about 16.6 and 10.5+ despite getting a lot of the defensive attention of the other team with Wally, TA, and PP hurt. I'm not so sure who is more talented.

Gasol led memphis to three straight playoff births and won Gold for Spain.
Gasol has been putting numbers since day 1 he enter the league. Jefferson has only been doing this for a couple months. But, whose more talented? I don't know i have to see Jefferson + paul play together for a full season. Hopefully, if ainge makes a trade we don't have to think about whats better pierce/ gasol or Jefferson/gasol. I want to think about how good this team will be with Gasol/Jefferson/Pierce/Wally/West as your starting unit.
We'll see what happens.

Oh I'm sure you forgetten Gasol has been out with an leg injury for the 1st 20 games. I think that had nothing to do with how badly Memphis feel apart or the fact they're playing with lameduck coach. idk, i want Gasol but, not at the expense of Jefferson. If the reports are true about Jefferson + few picks for Gasol. Either Ainge is a !!!GREENIAC!!! or maybe Jefferson isn't highly regarded as us fan believe he is.

I have been giving this some thought, and I think it would be a bad idea to trade jefferson & co for Gasol. Stat wise, it is a draw. Plus, jefferson is younger, and has less wear & tear on his body.

I dont think we'll play ourselves out of top 5 pick convention, even if Wally and Pierce came back tomarrow. Right new if we played .55 ball the rest of the year, we'd still barely crack 30 wins. This would put is around the 4-7 spot in the draft. My guess is we'll play around .350-.400 ball once Pierce comes back(we still have some very tough stretches in our schedule), which should put us in the mid 20s in wins. Lets say we somehow end up with a ltto pick somewhere in the 6-8 area. I'd like us to take a strong look at JWright. I think he is gonna be a super freak in the pros. Then I'd talk to Memphis about Gasol(if hes still there). Offer em Green, Gomes and Ratliff for starters. Starting 5 for next year: Pau Al Wright Pierce West Im liking that team.

This is Pau's 6th year, and he has taken his team, to the playoffs 6 times. I just don't think that's very relevant. Arenas, Shaq, Wade, Jordan, Novitski, Kobe, David Robinson, Barkley, Stockton, Malone, Yao, TMac all had problems getting to the playoffs or in the playoffs. Robert Horry, Toni Kukoc, Luc Longley, Kurt Rambis, Scala before he came here, all had good times in the playoffs. It doesn't mean much to me.

I guess my starting point for negotiation would be Gomes, Telfair, Ratliffe and our #1 for Gasol.
Memphis gets twice as good a chance to land Oden and has a greater than 85% chance of getting landing either Oden or Durante.
Getting Gasol up here would be a positive development and make us a late season force with a fully healthy line-up.

I'd rather just roll with what we have, suck it up, get a primo lotto pick, and explore trade opprotunities during the draft.

I'd like to know what pick we have before we trade it. If we trade for Gasol and then end up getting the number 1 pick and Memphis drafts Oden we might be kicking ourselves for a long time. Who would you rather have Gasol or Oden? I would obviously take Oden. I would rate Gasol somewhere around the Noah's of the world, who is projected to go 4th in this draft and they are pretty similar players. Trading Jefferson and our pick for Gasol does not make any sense to me, considering even if we don't get the number 1 pick, we can still get a player very comparable to Gasol with our pick.
