Previous Game This Season
The Celtics soundly defeated the Pacers 114-88, in Boston in a game played on 11/15/06…The Celtics were able to
extend their lead to as many as 29 points in the fourth quarter with the Pacers not leading the game after the first half… Paul Pierce sunk two free throws in the final minute of the first half to put the Celtics ahead for good …The Celtics shot .500 from the floor while shooting .615 from three point range…Ryan Gomes
chipped in with 12 points and 12 boards while Paul Pierce led the Celtics scoring effort with a game-high 32 points in 33 minutes…Al Harrington scored 16 of his Pacers high 23 points.
Variables
The Celtics are coming off one of their worst efforts of the year in Orlando on Sunday. They will have had a couple of days off to rest and practice and hopefully will want to atone for that loss.
Pacers play Tuesday night and so will be coming in on the second night of back to back games. They could tire if we run them enough. O'Neal was listed as day to day going into the Atlanta game due to a sprained ankle. He played against Atlanta and the ankle may be a factor in the second game in a row.
Keys to the game:
Play team ball. When the players come in trying to do it all themselves and don't share the ball and look for the open man and play help defense, we don't win. We need to play team ball and find the open man, especially in the paint.
Rebounding and Defense We were out rebounded in Orlando by 20. Of course some of that is that Doc insists on keeping one of our best rebounders on the bench for some unknown reason. Every player, especially Al, Perk, Gomes and Scal have to be aggressive in going after rebounds. We also have to play tough defense. We won't outscore the Pacers and so we need to work at getting stops on the defensive end.
Make the easy shots. We miss way too many layups and wide open shots. If Wally isn't hitting he needs to stop shooting and get the ball to someone else who is hitting. But we need to finish at the basket and we haven't been.
