I love to have Pau Gasol especially with his size and scoring ability but, I don't think we're any closer to a contending team if we have to give up Paul Pierce in the trade.
I think we are. Gerald replaces Pierce down the road, and we, in essence, gain one of the top big men in the league.

Right, and this is why I think we can move on without Pierce. As good as he is, we don't need 2 big time scorers on the wings. I agree, but the problem with that is we don't have 2 big time scorers. Green is just a kid and is still learning the game. He had a nice game, but I'm not ready to jump ship just yet.

This is true, but this plan of trading for Gasol and becoming a powerhouse team is not going to be an overnight transformation. It'll take some time for Gerald and Jefferson to be consistent every day contributors, and then more time for them to cement themselves as premier players. But each and every year will give us encouragement towards the coming season.

If we need a big man for defensive reasons, how come Perkins isn't the player?

If we need a big man for defensive reasons, how come Perkins isn't the player? Perkins definitely fits the bill. But ultimately, I see him as a defensive presence and rebounding force off the bench. I see him as a 20 ~ 25 minute, 7 rebound and 2 blocks per game guy off the bench. His impact will be felt much more in this role. And I think he will relish in this role, since he will know what his specific role is and he can exert all his energy and focus into doing his job during the time he is on the court. And he won't really need to worry too much about foul trouble.
