Michael Holley on WEEI said today on his program that he has it on good authority that Oden plans to stay in college for one or two more years. He said that he has spoken to sources in Ohio who told him that Oden isn't coming out this year.
While Holley did come from Ohio and worked on papers there, I wonder how reliable his sources are.

Ok I guess we just have to win the lottery and get Durant then. This bumps up everyone. The only other guys I kinda want are Brandan Wright, Hawes, and Noah, I could maybe be talked into Horford. I'd want to bring in guys for workouts and if they don't come tell em we won't pick em. That's that.

There's always that chance that Oden stays. But I'm sure he'll be speaking to a lot of good advisers, who will usher him to the NBA.

Someone can always be talked into it either way, and Ainge is good at that stuff. Without Oden this draft isn't looking as strong though. I think after Oden and Durant there is some quality players and some potential stars, but question marks as well. It's deep at least.

Deep enough to trade for two mid 1st-round picks? ? ?

On another board (Celtics 17 message board), I read about this rumor:
Gasol/Deng to Boston Pierce to CHI Knicks Pick/Gordon/PJ Brown/Sweetney to Memphis
As much as I'd hate to see Pierce go, I would have to do this trade. Gasol would give us a super combo at the PF and Center with Al and Perk off the bench, plus Deng is a solid two-way player at the 3. Then, if Oden stays or we lose out on #1 or #2 (as happened when we lost out on Tim Duncan) then we have still added a quality big man who scores, rebounds, and blocks shots.

That is one of the better trades I have heard. Is it a rumor or just a suggested trade? I have heard rumors of Pierce being brought back now so as to prove he is healthy before the trade deadline.

I don't think there's any way on the Earth Chicago gives up Deng, Gordon, and the Knick's pick for PP.

Eja beat me to it. I find it hard to believe that John Paxson would give up so many of his core pieces and a high first round pick for Pierce.
I would love this trade, but I'm leary of it actually happening.

If I were a betting man, Id say that Oden will enter the draft. When the chips are down, people want the money(who can blame them?). For every Noah and Duncan, there are countless other players who leave the second they have a chance at being drafted, let alone the #1 pick overall.

The trade I proposed is probably just a rumor. I've heard of Gasol being shopped and Pierce being available - I think people are starting to try and piece things together just to guess at what may happen.
I agree that Chicago would be giving up too much -- the trade may take one of our young players (Green, West?) to complete.
