14 points, 6 boards, 1 block (7-8 FT) in 27 minutes.
Don't get me wrong, Gomes is playing well too, but it's time to take the shackles off of Al and let him do his thing down in the post. We need that low-post threat down on the box.
It seems as if he is doing just as much if not more than Ryan in less minutes every single game now.
I had predicted in Al's rookie year that this would be the year that he "breaks out". I think he is starting to finally break out of his shell.
If the losing continues, START HIM, and give him the 30/min a game that Ryan is getting.

Gomes has been the one bright spot for us.
I, however, also believe Al should be given the most minutes if we are serious about his development.
I really hoped Al would be starting by now and showing signs of being as exsplosive as Amare WAS for the suns. I really saw him being that mobile.
The problems with his ankles and then the appendix thing are really hampering things, but are out of his control.
But what it really comes down too for me is I want Al to be better than Gomes. He's 6'10" with pretty decent footwork. We've not had a all-star PF since McHale, IMHO.
So, Gomes will be best suited< IMO, as a sixth man. At 6'7" 250, he's undersized, but is wide bodied enough to play PF, however, he has SF height. Speaking of his height, I wonder if it would be worth it for us to see him at SF in short spells. Sort of our "poor mans" Artest.

Gomes is one of my favorite players. I have zero complaints about him whatsoever except maybe one thing if you can call it a complaint. He is not and is not likely ever to be a gold or silver medal player or third team NBA anything, although 6th man of the year is possible. Gomes has basically proven what he can do. Al has not. We don't know anything about how good he can be. It's clearly time to find out.

Yes, Al should be given the opportunity to start. At least see if this change will ignite better fortunes.
One thing Al MUST work on right now--getting better initial position in the post before he receives the ball. He sets up too far away from the basket.
And the team must do a better job of feeding him the ball.

I like Big Al and G-Man... I also believe there are enough minutes for both of them to get over 30min/game. Starting and being 6th man should be based on the team we play and match-ups. Same goes for Rondo, Telfar, Green and Powe, IMO.

Big Al's per48/min stats
I know per 48min/gm stats do not mean everything.
Nevertheless they are stats, and they do tell a part of the story.
21.2 points (number 101 in the league) better than:
Elton Brand Sharif Abdur-Rahim Michael Sweetney Troy Murphy Andrew Bynum Stomile Swift
(If he got more touches I believe he would be top 50)
15.3 rebounds (number 28 in the league) tied with Tim Duncan and better than:
Okafor Garnett Amare Stoudamire Andrew Bynum Zach Randolph
2.15 blocks better than:
Shawn Marion Amare Stoudamire Jamaal Magloire Chris Kaman MARK BLOUNT ;D Tyson CHandler Shaq Channing Frye Nick Collison
START BIG AL and give him 35 min/gm a game!!!!!

Need I also remind you, he is doing this while shooting:
53% FG 74% FT
Now he also commits 7.2 fouls/48 minutes. He limits this and hopefully Doc will play him more and he can put numbers up closer to the above mentioned.
I am in no way hailing him the next Kevin McHale. I am just saying he needs more minutes!

Gomes and Al have been the bright spot on this team. Maybe, put Al and Gomes in the starting unit together? No offense to K-Perk but he hasnt' proven to be anymore than a spot-up starting center.
Let see if Al can make an impact at Center like Amare did for the suns.

Al needs to play better defense to garner more minutes. Doc can't play him more, because Al picks up "rookie" type fouls and gets into foul trouble too often. I am all for him playing more, w/ better d.

I don't get that AL needs to play better defense when the people who starting right now play awful defense. He no worst than Ryan Gomes on the defensive end and atleast Al can block a couple shots a game.
The lineup needs to change because it ain't working right now and i don't expect things to get better unless some how this team learns how to play the game of basketball.

Al's defense has improved and its the best I've ever seen from him. Yeah, he still commits the occasional dumb foul, but not as frequently as he used to. It mainly happens when he's out of position. He's also getting good at drawing charges. Al has the ability to be a quality shot blocker because he's long and quick. What he has to work on right now is how to keep his man from backing his way so easily to the basket. Mike Sweetney had Al backpeddling after every bump. I'd like to see Al put back some weight on his body, especially some muscle mass in his chest, shoulders and arms.

Al should start tonight at Center. With Perk being out for 3 weeks along with Kandi and Ratliff not ready to come back and no room on the roster to bring in another center, Al should get the nod to start. Doc should use Powe to back him up but will probably use Scal.

Why do I strongly suspect Scala will start at center and Powe kinda still gets no mins.

Why do I strongly suspect Scala will start at center and Powe kinda still gets no mins. My guess would be because Doc is our coach... He never does the smart thing.
