Yep, I was mightily upset after reading that part of the news. Why in the world did we bring in Telfair and Rajon then? We could have just stuck with Delonte at PG, kept our 7th pick and then draft Brandon Roy. I mean, if we are going to continue being a slow plodding halfcourt team, Delonte was doing an excellent job (and I'm not criticizing Delonte here--his strength is in the halfcourt game).
Ainge's goal since coming back to Boston has been to make us an uptempo team. If Doc can't transform us into this type of team, its time to ship him out. If the players aren't listening to him, there's obviously a problem there and it needs to be squared away, pronto!

I got a solution - Trade Bassy, Allen, Jefferson and Scalabrine to Houston for Juwan Howard and Bonzi Wells.

If we are going to trade away some of our young and talented players, it has to be for good players in return who have years left in their tanks. Bonzi Wells is a good player, but he's either at his apex, or will soon be heading downwards. Juwan is already on a downward decent.

I bring thsi thread up again because its one of the reasons why we are struggling (again). Doc has neglected to get this team running and instead has gotten us to be a solely halfcourt team. To the team's credit during our three game winning streak, our halfcourt offense worked really well and the ball found the right players. Its fine to be a strong halfcourt team because during tight games (and especially during the playoffs), its vital to be able to execute our halfcourt offense effectively. But we CANNOT abandon the uptempo game. We need to push the ball. That's why we went after Telfair and Rajon. And to be honest, we are just wasting away their talents.
Its time for Doc to let Telfair and Rajon run this team. Let them use their creativity to run the team and get open shots for our perimeter players and low post guys. Let them initiate the offense instead of taking the ball out of their hands 99% of the time as they pass halfcourt.
Let them create plays by running picks for them and have players move to open spots as they penetrate. Doing this will open up the court a lot more for players to do damage in the flow of the offense instead of trying to create for themselves.

Tonite I imagine DA walking in on Doc in his office and Doc says "Danny. I don't know. I just don't know what to do" and DA grabs him and says "YOU CAN ACT LIKE A MAN!"
DA has given him the players to run, but Doc won't play them. GG and Rondo are built for the running game and Wally could come off the bench. Instead other guys are getting more minutes than them. Ridiculous. Terrible rotation.

Right, Danny is giving him the players who fit into the running game, but Doc instead uses the ones who don't run. I like Gomes and know that he has a big niche in our system, but when we need a shot of energy, Doc has got to take him out and put in Leon Powe. What in the world is Doc thinking by sitting Powe for so long? He comes in and immediately starts making things happen because he's aggressively taking it to the basket.
And same with Gerald--Doc has got to play him more. Gerald has got to get comfortable out there because this kid can certainly do damage with his athleticism in the uptempo game. And run plays to get him the ball. The halfcourt game does nothing for Gerald's game if he's only asked to spot up for three pointers.

You know sometimes it's just common sense. It's really not that complicated. At one point this summer I swear there was this pg on the team that was like the next coming of Steve Nash. There's this huge center on the team that reminds me of a young Shaq. There's this other young guy on the team that flew last year. Just jumped and seemed to use the Force to stay up there so long. Where did they go? I think they're still there but so often just sitting the bench. ridiculous

Its really simple actually. When the starting unit is struggling, use our 2nd unit to provide a boost of energy and get us back into the game. That's what they did tonight (but unfortunately, every time Doc called upon them, we were already in a big hole). He takes too long to go to them, and instead kills us slowly by sticking with the unathletic and plodding lineup of Wally, Pierce, Gomes and Perkins. Its not that these players can't be effective together. But when the halfcourt offense isn't working, Doc should not stick with them till we fall behind by 15 pts and then make adjustments. As soon as the momentum is changing and he senses that the halfcourt game is stalling, go to the bench and bring in Jefferson and Powe because these guys are actually producing in the paint. And use Gerald, Rajon and Delonte because they push the ball a lot more than Pierce and Wally.
If the halfcourt offense is working, them stick with them. But make the adjustments if its not.
