Nets inbound. Williams takes it to the basket and lays it in. Telfair hits a jumper. Telfair with a steal and Celtics win by 4 Final score 94-90. Powe played excellent. He was the different in the game. If they cut this kid, they are making a HUGE mistake. He is my player of the game. he played tough defense, rebounded, blocked shots and just played hard at both ends of the floor.

I agree. If anything Powe made a case for taking Scal's minutes this game.

Yeah!!! Alright, what a comeback. I don't care that it was against their bench guys. We played a lot of young guys and they beat the Nets' young guys. Sure their starters would have beaten our starters, but I'm still happy that we pulled out a win.
And if you look at the rebounding stat, you'll see that we won the rebounding battle. In order for us to win games, we need rebounding.

Yes, Powe was the difference in this game. We needed rebounding and he gave us some.

He reminds me of Malik Rose moreso than Gomes. More of an interior player, scappy defender and great rebounder. Gomes being the more all around player, but Powe was very intense out there. I would say Powe looked like the better rebounder than Gomes and defender. Gomes the better offensive player.

Powe wins the Tommy Award... with 15 boards and great defense and effort. Now that small lineup did well. He went small but had Powe and Gomes in there for rebounding.

Reckon Doc is playing Scal a bit to possibly pimp him for a trade?
Reckon Powe can rebound against subs but not against bigger 4s? Even that could be helpful.
Wonder how Powe's game compares to brandon Hunter?

I was never a big fan of Hunter. He was slow and plodding and not good defensively. Powe is quick and very scrappy.

Gomes, Powe Spark Celtics’ Rally Boston 94, New Jersey 90 Posted Oct 18 2006 11:51PM
BOSTON, Oct. 18 (Ticker) -- Ryan Gomes got it done when it counted, and Leon Powe gave the Boston Celtics something to think about.
Gomes scored 15 points, including three straight baskets to put Boston ahead for good, and Powe came off the bench to score 11 and grab 15 rebounds, as the Celtics erased a 23-point second-half deficit in a 94-90 preseason victory over the New Jersey Nets.
A second-round pick by Denver in June's draft, Powe had played just four minutes in the preseason and had not seen the floor in the last three games.
But the 6-8, 240-pound Powe helped his chances at making the roster Wednesday, pulling down 10 of his boards on the defensive glass.
Powe and Gomes were the major sparks for the Celtics, who trailed, 71-48, with four minutes left in the third quarter and 77-61 entering the final period.
Boston outscored New Jersey, 33-13, in the final quarter.
Paul Pierce, returning to the lineup after sitting out Tuesday's game against the New York Knicks with a strained left hip, added 18 points for the Celtics, who shot 46 percent (33-for-72).
Vince Carterscored 23 points, and center Nenad Krstic added 21 for New Jersey, which shot 39 percent (31-for-79) and fell to 0-4 in the preseason.
Carter, Krstic and Bostjan Nachbar combined for 41 points as the Nets stormed to a 54-36 halftime lead.

this forum might want to put a hold on optimism about the "kids." AJ and Perk between them got, what, 3 RBs and lots of fouls? Olo didn't do any better.

Just curious to those who are lucky enough to watch these games--do Jefferson and Perk get touches in the low post and what percentage of the plays go to them in the paint?
BTW, talking about who Leon Powe reminds us of, take a look at some of your early 90's basketball music videos and check out Chris Webber. Powe's movements are reminiscent of a young Webber.
