Justin says he trusts his source. Danny has mentioned if he can get an all star for the pick and a young player or two and includes Iverson's name in that list of All Stars he would be interested in. This one may have some legs. Don't forget that just hours before the trade was announced last year bringing Wally here, Danny was denying that there were any trade talks anywhere close to being done in the works. So just the fact that both Danny and Philly are denying this, doesn't mean it isn't true. Personally I think it is a terrible trade. Danny would be trading away our future for a few more wins now. Both Al and Gerald have very high ceilings and will be All Stars, I have no doubt of that. AI is on the decline of his career and is wearing down, even though he has been a tough player. Worst of all, I honestly feel that he would disrupt the chemistry that this team has. I just don't like it.

Would You Trade Gerald Green, Al Jefferson, and Wally Szczerbiak For An All-Star?

Jeff Clark from Celticsblog wrote an apology to his readers this morning for possibly breaking the Iverson rumor too early. I personally do not feel that Jeff has anything to apologize for in this situation. He says, “I didn’t really mean to mislead anyone yesterday, but I may have acted too quickly and not researched enough.”, but he even states, “In fact, all my sources are really just media members with their own sources. I simply pass along info that looks reasonable, give you exactly where I got the info, and let you make your own decisions.” All Jeff did was report what actually happened, ESPN reported a possible deal involving Iverson during the Red Sox pregame. Sure, Celtics fans are starved for information on the blockbuster trade that Danny continues to allude to so they are bound to take any info and run with it. I also took a little heat for the Garnett rumor that lit up the message boards on Friday afternoon and through the weekend. While I was merely suggesting that the Garnett rumors were going to heat up again (not that the deal was done) my post was misleading and I think Jeff says it best when he says, “I guess you could say that this is why there is something called journalistic integrity. You try to avoid such situations by being careful with what you trust and put out there. The lines are a little more blurred on the web, but there is still one’s reputation to protect. I don’t want to be a stereotypical untrustworthy blogger dangling the latest gossip to attract eyeballs.” Kudos to Jeff for doing his part to elevate blogging to a something that can be described as having integrity. I would add that only a handful of blogs have the kind of integrity that Jeff speaks of and his blog is one of them. But I also want to speak of the fact that Jeff was still only reporting the information that he was getting from a respected poster on his forums and there were other confirmations on the net that the ESPN report was made, just not as definitively as the internet rumor led most message board posters to believe. But that is simply the internet and Jeff should not lay blame on himself or accept the responsibility for something that was inevitablely going to happen due to the nature of the internet.
Jeff also said today, “That is why I always name my sources and provide disclaimers.” Well, I won’t name a source, but I will provide you with a disclaimer. Most bloggers are one degree of separation from the “source” as Jeff says, “In fact, all my sources are really just media members with their own sources. I simply pass along info that looks reasonable, give you exactly where I got the info, and let you make your own decisions.” So that’s my disclaimer for the following information. I assure you that while I will not name my source, I know the source and this one is far more credible than the ‘rumor’ e-mail I received last Friday. Again, and I want to make this clear, this information is one degree of separation from ‘the source’, but I feel strongly that my contact is credible in this case. He says that the Celtics and 76ers are having serious discussions about consumating a trade that would send Iverson to Boston for Wally Szczerbiak, Gerald Green, and Al Jefferson as the key components to the trade. Obviously, some other players have to be involved for this to work, but those are the key pieces to the deal according to my contact. I passed along the information with disclaimers and now leave you to make your own decisions. More importantly, how would you, the fan, feel about trading away promissing young stars Gerald Green and Al Jefferson for an All-Star? Is he the Answer?
