Now, all I ask is for you to really think about this with an open mind, and then post your response.
I'm fairly confident (as I'm sure many of you are also) that Gerald Green has star potential and a real shot at becoming a legitimate star in the league. He's got the charisma to excite the crowds and the offensive game to be a big time scorer.
I'm also fairly confident in Al Jefferson, thinking he will be a top 5 PF in the league. He has the goods to be a force, but he just needed the work ethic and the guidance to bring out his game. From all indications, Clifford Ray has transformed Big Al into a new man. After being disappointed with him last year, I am once again highly hopeful that he will be a very productive player.
Thinking ahead a few years and pencilng in Gerald and Al as our star caliber players, would you trade Pierce away for a shot at Greg Oden? This kid is projected as the next big thing coming out of high school since Lebron, and the next big "big man" since Shaq. Reminds me of David Robinson in game and personality. Athletic 7 footer with shot blocking skills with a 'good boy' personality.
Scouts drool over him and GM's are sold on his potential. He's been touted as the #1 pick for a couple of years now. Everyone has been able to put him under a microscope and interogate his game with a fine tooth comb for years now, and they believe he's the real thing. I've seen him play once (McD's game) and wasn't overly impressed, but then again, I wasn't overly impressed with Gerald Green when I seen him play in the McD's game either, and I'm a believer now. I think Oden had some kind of tricep injury in that game and had to sit out the second half. But his quickness, agility, and leaping ability was still very evident, as well as his shot blocking skills (even displayed a nice shooting touch, especially from the free throw line).
FL12 mentioned the other day that top notch big men, more than any other position, was the common denominator among the champions in the past decade (Shaq, Robinson, Duncan, Wallace bros., Hakeem).
Will having a dominant frontcourt combination of Greg Oden and Al Jefferson, with Gerald on the wings, give us the needed ammo to be a bona fide contender? moreso than having a big time wing combination of Pierce and Gerald with Jefferson being the lone top notch big man?
I'm not forgetting about Kendrick Perkins; I just don't see him being a top Center in the league. A solid one, for sure.
Which Big Three sounds more likely to win a title?
Gerald Green
Al Jefferson
Greg Oden
or
Gerald Green
Al Jefferson
Paul Pierce
