I know there have been rumors about Ainge making a trade for a veteran player. Most people are hoping for O'Neal or Bosh (really can't see this happening though). Especially trading with those teams within our own conference.
Boozer has been injury prone the last couple seasons, and Big Al's ceiling is supposed to be a lot higher, but there were some rumors about bringing him here during the summer. I believe Utah will try to trade him again this off-season. Maybe we could put together a package (smaller than the package for O'neal/Bosh) and give up a little less and trade for him. He has had injury issues, but so has Jermaine. He is not an athletic freak, and he won't dunk over you every night, block tons of shots, but he can score in the paint, can shoot the 15 footer (54%FG) and can board with the best of them. He is a bull inside the paint. Very efficient player and scorer, just what Ainge likes. He is averaging 15 and 8 this year, and in the past month he has had three 30 point games and some big rebounding nights, and has averaged 20 points and 10.5 boards the past few weeks. He shoots about 70% from the line as well, and has always shot well from the field.
He wouldn't be getting as many touches here as he is in Utah but still could be effective. The injury bug would scare me a bit, and I wouldn't want to give up too much because of it, but maybe it would be worth a look. I wouldn't give up Al. Maybe some draft picks and a few fill-in players (Scal, Dickau). We have enough youth already anyway. The thing is he would not put us over the top, and the guys who would out us over are either unattainable, too injury prone, or we would have to give up WAY too much to acquire them. I'm thinking Danny might be looking at guys like Boozer to add to the core we already have without having to give up too much to make us a bit more competitive.
What do ya'll think???
My real dream is to acquire Chris Bosh and have him play here for the next 10-12 years, but that will never happen.
Imagine a lineup like this:
5-Perk
4-Bosh
3-Pierce
2-Gerald Green/Wally
1-Delonte or whoever
It's good to dream though.
