Im getting close to giving up on Al. It's obvious that he doesnt get it. His bball IQ is low. Doesnt know when to rotate on D, bites on every single pumpfake and commits the stupidest fouls possible. One more year. If he does not show that he can grasp basic defensive concepts, let him go. Trade him. Should have gone to school Al. You are just not ready.

sprash: the ambassador of negativity

It is short-sighted to even talk about giving up on a player who is in his second year out of high school and is fighting through ankle injuries. We already made that mistake with Billups and J. Johnson, we don't need to let another high-caliber player slip through our fingers just because he doesn't pick everything up right away.

I didnt bother reading the first post. He's a kid. He was playing against 5'10" players less than 2 years ago. Give me a break.

How long before Sprash gives up on Perkins, West, or Gomes?

Yah if Al went to school he wouldn't be on this team in the first place. So, are you going to jump on his bandwagon when he has a good game?

I don't like draftiong high schoolers and also thought Al would be further along by now and have strongly stated that I think Gomes is better and may always be better and even I don't want to give up on Al.

Oh come one sprash. Give the kid a break. He has had to fight ankle injuries his whole career and is only 20 years old. I'm sorry, but your negativity reminds me of meltinjohn.

I know some people are disappointed because Al hasn't "progressed" this year like some would have hoped. First of all, people need to stop referring to him, especially in the papers, as "Springfield-bound Al". The kid is 20 years old. Give me a break.
He is two years removed from high school. He will not breakout until next year, or maybe even the year after next.
Right now, Gomes is more polished, has better understanding of the game on offense and defense, and is the better overall player. He also went to college for 4 years and is 3 years older than Big Al.
Al will be fine, if given proper time to develop. yes, he has A LOT to learn, but hopefully he can learn under the Celtics and not another team because we gave up on him like we did with Chauncey, and Joe Johnson.

Well, Derren is no longer posting here. He isn't gone forever, every now and then he will come by and say hello to us all. He has left to become a better Christian (Maybe C17 can explain it better). Check out his thread in the Off-Topics board and maybe that will give you a better idea of why he left.

After reading that thread, all I can say is WOW. Not religious by any means, but since I am a hindu, Im going to hell, I presume . Anyway, Al should become a better defender next year.

I've been sticking up for the Hindus of the world Sprash. But Derren is really persuasive man. I mean maybe you are going to Hell. You can say hello to MeltinJ down there.
One of my favorite parts in a movie related to Hell was when Woody Allen went down there and Satan was Billy Crystal. Woody met his father who said "I'm a Jew. I don't believe in Hell."
Woody said "Where do you want to go" and his father said "A Chinese restaurant" so Woody gave the deamon $50 and said take him to Joy Luck"
I thought that was very funny even if I simply don't understand the stereotype of Jews and Chinese restaurants. I challenge any of you to explain it cause it totally mystifies me and I dated a Jew for 4.5 months once. She knew everything about being Jewish but that aspect never came up and I don't think I can email to ask her.

Anyway, Al should become a better defender next year. I hope he does too Sprash... Along with the rest of the team. Good to see ya S98! ! ! Stop by more often, when you get the chance. I might be wrong but I thought Celtic fans recieve a 'Get out of Hell free' card. I'm hoping... ;D

Several posts on this thread made me laugh. Glad the board has a great sense of humor.
I think w/ Al, everyone expects 1-2 years, and the reality is really more like Jermain O'Neal like, 3-4 years. Comparing him to Gomes is not fair. 4-year college player, vs. 4-year high school player. Most people never saw Gomes when he went to Wilby in Waterbury,CT. Providence was the only D1 school to give the guy a chance. If Al did go to college, there is no way the Celtics draft him where they did.
