Solid win, especially without our young big guys. Maybe the temporary injuries to them have been a blessing in disguise. Now Doc has seen that Gomes is a player (what Ainge has been saying for quite some time). This is part of the reason why Danny made the trade as well.
I feel Gomes can be a great bench player. A Corliss Williamson/Malik Rose type of guy who can bang, rebound, score, pass, and play a little D. Our bench needs some help and when Perk and Al come back, Ryan will provide a huge boost to the bench (if Doc keeps playing him).
Pierce and Wally had a very good offensive night, very efficient from the field. Delonte had a lot of assists. Raef shot the ball well. Everyone played unselfish basketball and the ball seemed to be moving around a lot. When this happens, it makes it so much easier for everyone. I think they have finally learned this. Hopefully it can keep up.
I probably forgot a bunch of other players, but those are the guys that seemed to stand out tonight.

The post game show:
The Celtics submitted another good effort with the 102-94 win. Orlando played well tonight, too. Ryan Gomes gets the nod as POTG with his rebounding, defense, and all around court awareness. It is good that he gets this time so he can be in the rotation when Perkins and Jefferson get back in. Doc Rivers shortened his bench because the Celtics don't have a lot of games coming up. They are very shorthanded to begin with as a result of all the injuries and the Sczcerbiak trade. The Celtics also played with poise and determination in the 4th qtr making smart decisions, passing around, and hustling back when Orlando tried to run. They overcame bad breaks from the referee, as Raef LaFrentz got screwed time and again on his coverage on Dwight Howard, who was treated like a prince tonight. And Sczcerbiak was tackled on that inbounds pass by Orien Green that resulted in a turnover. The refereeing was a travesty.
But the Celtics pick up their 2nd win in a row and now await Cleveland Wednesday night in the last game before the Allstar break.

We're seeing something that Doc has said all along -- that Raef's game is a measure of our ball movement. He can hit the open shot but does not create his own shot well. When the ball moves well and we have good spacing, it allows Raef to score well. Hopefully, this will become a trend. IMO part of the trade for Wally is that he doesn't hold on to the ball as much as Ricky does.

Now our record is 20-31. I missed one of our wins when posting the thread. I modified the title to show the correct wins before last night.

Back-to-back, impressive. What has gotten into Raef this week? ;D Raef is a useful player when he gets open looks. He gets his opportunities off the pick and pops. He is also working hard at defense and rebounding. Raef was screwed more than anybody else by the presence of Mark Blount and Ricky Davis, both needing their touches. They are in Minnesota now screwing up Kevin Garnett

Blount last night with 13 points but only 3 rebounds and he also had 3 turnovers in 31 minutes. His negatives definitely outweigh his positives still. Banks with 6 points, 2 assists added 2 turnovers in 21 minutes and his inconsistent play that was so maddening in Boston continues. Reed only played 7 minutes and has the most potential of the 4 players we sent to Minny. he had 2 points 1 rebound and 1 assist and no turnovers. He is a good kid and I hope he succeeds there. Ricky is Ricky. He can take over a game, he can be the most exciting player on the floor, he works harder on other areas when his shot isn't on, but he can also destroy a set offense when he tries to create his own shot and he also can be inconsistent. He had a team high 9 assists but only 14 points on 7 of 17 shooting with 5 rebounds and 2 turnovers. There are 7 turnovers for Minny in the 3 players they got from us. I definitely think in the long run we are going to be a better team because of this trade. Wally fits better in our offense and is a better fit for team defense and has a great attitude. Half of the battle was losing the negative vibes from Banks and Blount who weren't happy and let everyone know it. Also the increased playing time for Perk, Al, and Gomes has to be a positive. The more playing time they get the better they will get and the quicker they will be what we need them to be for this team to be good. They are such hard working kids they are going to improve where they need to. As you said, Q, Raef will also benefit with more open shots that will translate into more points and a better flowing offense. Many times our offense just stalled with Ricky or PP dribbling around that more often than not ended up in a turnover. Now with the team moving the ball more in a passing offense I feel the team is going in the right direction. Reminds me of way back when Bird, McHale, Ainge, DJ and Chief had that passing game going.

Not to mention both teams are 3-7 since the trade. Celtics fans can look at the statistics all they want but in the end neither team really won in the trade. In fact, if anything Minny gotten worst in this trade.
