Former Celtic, Brandon Hunter, collapsed and died yesterday, at the age of 42.
He, along with Perk and Marcus Banks, were Danny Ainge's first draft picks of his tenure as POBO back in '03.
I especially was fond of Hunter because of his masterful ability to rebound (I believe he led college basketball in rebounding two consecutive years). I envisioned him and Perk being our frontcourt duo leading us to titles.

I'm seeing that he died in September. Oh really? I should read the artcle's date before I post it. For the life of me I still don't know why he didn't have more of an impact in the NBA than he did.

That has happened to me before, Derren. Always I feel like an idiot after when I realize I remember the first time they died. LMAO!

DM I remember you being really high on Hunter when he was on the team.
I remember that draft fondly. My parents didnt have cable so i had to go to my grandparents to watch it. Having new ownership and a new GM (Ainge) filled me with an optimism I hadn't had in pretty much my entire time following the Celtics to that point.

That was a special draft in that it kick started our time here at CG, it was Ainge's first draft, and Lebron was in it.
I went over to my family's house to watch the draft (I forgot why).
Hard to believe that was already 21 years ago!

Yeah, I thought he had all the tools to be a rebounding force. I remember CF telling me Marcus Banks' comp was Baron Davis (I made him give me a comp). Man, was Banks a flop -- what did Ainge like about him? Was never a Perk fan. But he served his purpose and helped us win a ring.

I kind of get it with Banks. Dude was pretty athletic and built like a tank. back in those days a guard had to be pretty thick if they wanted to get to the hoop on a regular basis without getting injured. He just never developed the skillset needed. I think once you get out of the top 5 GMs sometimes just draft guys with NBA caliber bodies and hope that they can improve their skillset to get to that point. Some do (Kawhi Leonard) and most do not (Fab Melo).
