I'm leaning in a different way, Loy. I think Wyc already knows who will be buying the team, and maybe it's been in the works for a while. That's why not more than 2 weeks after winning Banner 18, Wyc is bowing out. If the team is for sale, you obviously don't want to give out massive contracts at this time because whoever is looking to buy the C's will have to inherit a gigantic payroll. But look at Brad, he's daily resigning players and driving up the payroll. To me, him being given the greenlight tells me there's a plan in place and he's authorized to do what he needs to do. Sure hope so, Derren. You always have a way of making it better. If you're right that would be best case scenario!

I just read in TheAthletic that Steve Pagliuca wants to remain an owner. Maybe he'll put together a group to buy the majority share.

I see this topic as a crisitunity. Because Wyc is staying till 2028 he's clearly going for another and another and he's not rushing out the door. It's more like when you seriously overdraft in a fantasy league and then casually mention the player is on the block.
The Celtics are tenants in the Garden and the Garden is somewhat old. If they were to build a new arena it could really help the team (albeit hurt the Bruins).
Then you wouldn't have to drive into Boston to go to a game. The New England Celtics wouldn't bother me at all. It could seriously revitalize the economy of some places. Would it be so bad to have the Celtics right next to the Hall of Fame in Springfield?
What if the Krafts bought the team and built an awesome building at Patriot Place?
I don't think having a bad team is way to make money here. Not to maximize it anyway. You want to fill the place for playoff games and if they had a new arena we could get things like an All Star game and Final Four games.
Opening a new arena would give us an excuse to bring back all the old players to put their banners and jerseys back in the rafters. They could have the occasional G league game there. It might make it easier to have a WNBA team if that made sense.
I'm just not sold yet on this being a bad thing.

Oh I am completely against renaming the Boston Celtics. If New England wants their own team they can make one.
This is New Englands team

interesting twist to this story which Dan Shaughnessy just broke it seems.
Wyc only owns 2% of the Celtics. With his 90 year old father Irving as being the actual majority stakeholder. Who wants to sell in order to get his affairs in order. Yikes!

As long as the next regime cares about winning, then it shouldn't mattet if it's the Grousbecks, or Pagliuaca, or whoever.
Let's just hope whoever they are are willing spend to win.

So it appears that the speculation about why Wyc wants to sell now may all be wrong. Maybe it's just that his father, who is the actual majority owner, and who is over 90 years old, wants to make his assets more liquid so as to better divide them among his four children after his death.

Very interesting and it makes sense knowing that Irv is the majority owner. Pagliuca did say he would be bidding so it would be great if he remains owner. However it shakes out, I hope they stay committed to winning.
