Scal hits one of 2 and Wolves rebound the miss. McCants misses and Al grabs the rebound. Tony misses in the lane and Gomes tips it home. Banks takes it hard to the basket and is fouled. Banks misses the FTs. Celts rebound. Al is triple teamed and passes out to Gomes who gets it inside to Tony who is fouled on the shot. He misses the FT and wolves rebound. Blount hits a jumper. Greene hits a 3. Allen called for a foul as he tips the ball away from Blount. Blount at the line. he hits both FTs. Gomes fouled as he takes it baseline to the basket. He hits the FTs. Banks with a beautiful bullet pass inside to Blount who amazingly catches it and lays it in. Gomes fouled hard by Reed. He misses the first but hits the second.
Wolves win 110 - 85. Very, Very ugly and disappointing loss.

My thoughts after 3 quarters: (I stopped watching after this)
It is truly sad to watch this game, and seeing all of the old faces torch us. No matter which way you slice it we got killed tonight by our own men, our ex-players.
It angers me that it took a trade to light a fire under Blunt’s !!!GREENIAC!!!. To me, he is a disgrace of a ballplayer and I am GLAD that we rid ourselves of him. He truly is the type of player that only plays when he feels like it. Tonight this was proven right in front of our eyes, and I expected it because I know the type of player he is/isn’t.
He never skipped down the court in a Celtics uniform. I do not know what is more sickening, the fact that he never did skip, or watching him actually skip.
Banks torched us. We could not stop anyone. Even Reed looked rejuvenated.
Pierce was HORRIBLE. So far he has not adjusted to the trade. Since the trade, he is playing terrible.
We have no offense. Noone seems to know what to do. It’s like they have forgotten how to score. Even Wally is forcing shots because he does not know his role. He feels as if he has to score because no one else is, and it makes his play poorer.
Pierce is back to his old selfish play self, and it is truly sad.
They never were able to play defense before. Now they can’t score either. It is very sad, and although we have witnessed some great play out of young Perk and Al, I have come to the realization that Danny is rebuilding. We are NOT a playoff team. Pierce will be unhappy. So will Wally. Because he left a decent team and is now on a mediocre one.
We will probably have a decent draft pick, but the draft is weak anyway. More inexperience and youth to add to what we have.
Noone can create for other players. That is what we are really lacking right now. I LOVE Delonte, but that is the only thing that he cannot do.
Banks was doing a decent job of that tonight. Banks to Blunt…Banks to KG. Banks to Blunt again.
Good luck to the ex-Celts Ricky, Marcus, Justin…not Blunt.
Hopefully the Celts can get some good chemistry, because this game was depressing.
I knew we would probably lose the game, but I never thought that we would get massacred like this. They are probably loving McHale now.

I would have to say that no one on the Celts played particularly well. Wally had 22 points but it was on 6 of 15 shooting with 3 rebounds and 3 assists. That is where we will miss Ricky. Even when he had a poor shooting night he hustled and got rebounds and assists and just brought energy in so many ways. PP had 21 points but his shooting was terrible. 7 of 23 and only 3 rebounds and 1 assist. Not good at all. Al had a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds and probably played the hardest but it wasn't one of his best games over all. Perk only had 4 boards and 3 points and 6 fouls. The energy just wasn't there. Along with our shooting woes we played terrible defense and just didn't hustle.
Now on the other hand, Blount had 16 points and 10 rebounds and was playing with energy and determination. Banks was a dynamo with 20 points and 6 assist and a ton of hustle. Ricky played well even though he didn't score a lot he had 9 points on 4 of 9 shooting and 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Reed came out and played some nice defense and had 9 points.
If we judge by this game Minny sure got the best of the deal. I just hope in the long run we can even it out somewhat. We look really disjointed out there. It may be because Wally hasn't had any practices with us and they are trying to fit him into the offense and we haven't had time to build chemistry. But The Wolves have 4 players who they had to bring in who sure seem at home and playing very well so not sure that is a valid excuse.
Very disappointing and very ugly basketball on our side tonight.

It's kind of sickening that the two MB only try when they want to try which is quite sad that what the NBA is becoming to.
We're going to live and die by our young players. I wouldn't be surprise if the other vets get pissed off down the road. This season has truely become a rebuilding year.

I was really upset watching the second half of the game. While Marcus, Blount, and Justin Reed were having a good time at our expense, none of our guys wanted to show any fight to retaliate. We were being nice guys out there, afraid to put the hurt on our former teammates. Hey, if we are going to be embarrassed, don't let those guys laugh at our expense. Make 'em pay.
On top of this, Doc MUST not play Raef if Wally and Delonte are already on the court UNLESS Raef has a hot shooting hand. Otherwise, there are too many unathletic shooters who can't create for themselves that well. To make matters worse, the starting 5 has no footspeed or game changing athleticism to give us an advantage. Perk, Raef, Wally, and Pierce have marginal speed, with Delonte only having average quickness. We won't be able to run with this starting 5.
And lastly, it is foolish to keep feeding the ball to Pierce on isolation plays when Trenton Hassel is on him. Hassel has done a good job guarding Pierce whenever we face them, but yet, rather than running Pierce off of screens, and make him flare to the elbows after setting picks to get him open on a few plays, we ran isolation plays for Pierce way too much and he wasn't able to convert. The offense sputtered again tonight and it doesn't help when we are putting ourselves in better positions to score.
The starting unit we have now may turn out to be a pretty good halfcourt team. But IMO, we need to inject some atleticism and speed in there to help offset with our slower players.

games like this happen sometimes. no big deal. no reason to turn this board into realgm, celticsblog or worst of all espn. how many lackluster performances like this one have we had this season. if i remember correctly it was only the third. so forget it and move on. i still do have doubts about doc as a coach but it won't change any time soon so i have to accept it. and care to remember - we only had one practice with wally - things cannot flow just yet. and his secondchild was born yesterday - talk about ohter distarctions. but i'd really like to see gg brought up from the patriots since we really need bench scoring

I agree BC. Clearly, this was a bitterly disappointing game, but was it really any worse than our blow-out loss at Chicago, our blow-out loss at New Jersey or our two losses to Atlanta? It's not like this team was firing on all cylinders with Davis, Blount and Banks. And we know how often Blount comes up big on the glass; it won't be too long before he has a stretch of games where he isn't in the mood to rebound. Reaf LaFrentz had back-to-back 10 rebound performances vs Sacramento and Milwaukee, but I don't expect to see him reach the top ten in rebounding. We already knew Blount every now and then played like he cared about rebounding, but that was few and far between. There is no indication he would ever have been reliable for us on a regular basis.
Banks also has had some good games for us, and some not-so-good. Although I wish we would have picked up his option, I'm not going to expect him to get 20 and 6 on a regular basis as he did not show any consistency with us. I hope he does well and finds his niche, but like Blount I'm not going to proclaim him a star after one good game.
I really thought Perkins would help us control the glass, after doing so well vs Brad Miller and the Kings, as well as his solid effort against Magliore and the Bucks. But he handcuffed himself with foul trouble and had a sub-par game.
Nice to see Jefferson have another double-double off the bench. I would love to see he and Perkins develop into a tandem for us. Let's not forget these young men did quite well vs Garnett and the T-Wolves last game, and combined for 21 rebounds vs a solid Milwaukee front line, so we shouldn't give up on them after one bad game.
If you look at the scores, prior to this two-game losing streak, we had won four of six but most of those games were lower scoring affairs. We are playing different combinations so our offense is out of syn, but other than this game our defense has been markedly improved as of late. Again, we are 1-2 since the trade, but we were no better than that before the trade. This game does nothing to prove that the trade has made us worse. Only time will tell if our new line-up will come together and be better than before. But what we had before clearly was not working, so I don't really see this one game as unraveling our entire season.

If this loss came at the expense of the Hornets or the Hawks, etc, it wouldn't have bothered me as much, because I know we are still needing to develop a feel for our new team. But the attitude on the court in the second half was disheartening. It was the manner in which we came out to play against the Wolves, the very team we dealt 4 of our players to, that really had me upset. Whenever teams make trades with one another, the first game they play against one another is like a statement game. As it is, we got blown out and Blount, Banks, and Reed had terrific games. Banks had 20 and 6 assists, Blount had 16 pts, 10 rebs, and 4 blocks, and we had to foul Reed twice or else he would have had crowd pleasing monster dunks. They scored 110 pts on 57% shooting. We only mustered 85 on sub 40% shooting. The second half, our tails were between our legs and the defense was MIA. They have the bragging rights.

Last night was a message game by Blount, Banks, Reed, and RD to Danny Ainge and Doc Rivers. Nothing more, nothing less. We had poor energy and it showed.
If we continue to play with poor energy at home and lose to Phoenix and LAC badly, then I would worry about Pierce being shipped out later this month.
Olowkandi is a pig of a player and I would not consider resigning him at all. In fact let him go to the Hornets.
I hardly watched the 2nd half, I watched Miami and LAC and Oklahoma and Milwaukee, both excellent games.

I watched the whole game and saw 2 things missing. One was our energy and fight. We just didn't hustle or work hard at all. Ricky always brought that every night and now we need another player to step up an bring that hustle and energy and fire that is contageous to his team mates. The second thing we are missing is offense off the bench. Last night was an aberration in that all of our starters were off offensively. That will take care of itself with a little rest and a couple of practices. We really haven't had a practice to try to integrate Wally into the offense yet and things aren't clicking. PP is trying to do too much and that never works. Wally is out of sync in that he really doesn't know the system yet but will learn it quickly. West is playing tentatively for some reason as well. But where we have a gaping hole is bench scoring. No one off the bench brings consistent scoring. Since we have 11 active players, Danny is weighing the options I am sure to bring in someone who can score off the bench. He has that exception that will expire in a week or so that he may be trying to use. He has Kandi who doesn't fit into the plans that maybe he can use. He has Green waiting in the wings. It will be an interesting couple weeks coming up to see how well we mesh with the new players and without the old and what moves Danny makes next.

Last night reminded me of when AW was traded to Dallas. His first game, was good % shooting, rebounding, and no threes. Then, each game it got worse. Blount/Banks/Reed had determination at our expense.

Blount and Banks played with determination? Oh. Well then I guess we made a big mistake.
