Now that we have 2 kids in the D-League I figured I would post updates on Dwayne Jones. He is looking pretty good so far. He can crash the boards and block shots and seems to be developing some offense also. He may be Perks future back up.
DWAYNE JONES C 40MIN 7-11FG 0-03PT 2-4FT 18RB 1AS 3TO 1BS 16PTS I will post the recap as soon as it is available.

Whoa, 18 rebs? From the pix, he looks like a player in the Mark Blount/Tony Battie mold (skinny athletic big man). I'm hoping he's a better rebounder and shot blocker than they are. We could really use those qualities off the bench.

Here is the recap from the local news paper. The Flame website hasn't posted one yet.
Flame top Tulsa 102-93 By Special To The News-press Originally posted on January 29, 2006 TULSA — Andre Barrett scored 31 points and Austin Nichols added 22 as the Florida Flame ended a two-game losing streak and beat the Tulsa 66ers 102-93 on Saturday in the NBA Development League.
Dwayne Jones and Hiram Fuller recorded double-doubles for the Flame. Jones scored 16 points and 18 rebounds, while Fuller had 12 points and 11 rebounds. It was Jones' ninth double-double of the season.
Theron Smith added 11 points for Florida as all five of its starters scored in double figures.
The first-place Flame improved to 16-9 for the season. The 66ers lost their fourth consecutive game to fall to 10-14.
The teams will square off again at 4 p.m. today. Florida is 3-0 against Tulsa this season.
"We played well,'' said Flame coach Jeff Malone. "Defense was the key. Tomorrow, we have to be a little bit smarter and a little bit tougher, and I think we can get another win."

I'd like to know what Ainge's future plans are for Dwayne Jones. I don't think I've read anything from Ainge's mouth, regarding DJ.

Wow, Florida. You really come through with the articles and info. Good work.
Sounds to me like we will have Jones in camp next year maybe challenging for a backup big man spot.
Don't know much about him, but from what I hear not great at scoring the basketball, but can rebound and block a few shots. Wonder if he plays good D?
I think that is the thing that will determine whether or not he makes the team next year, if he can defend other big men.

Draft Express has rated the top ten prospects among the D League and Green was rated number 1. Dwayne Jones is rated number 10. The site doesn't allow copy/pasting so am paraphrasing it here.
Jones is averaging 9.0 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists.
Jones is #10 right now partially due to the fact that they watched two of his worst games of the season. Despite this, they say that he shows good shot blocking skills and the ability to change shots around the basket. It also says that he needs to improve his positioning when battling in the post and that he doesn't have the best hands (Can't be worse than Blount's, can they???) It also says that his rebounding numbers in the NBDL are misleading because with the European goaltending rules (ball is active off the rim on the bounce) Jones scores a lot of put back dunks that wouldn't be legal in the NBA. They don't see his offensive game being a threat but if he can improve it enough to not be a liability then he will be a solid shot blocking center off the bench.

I just listened to the game feed over the internet. D Jones had a very good game. Chris Wallace is supposed to be there checking him out right now. FLAME 112 Rimrockers 105 2/5/06 Here are his stats for today: DWAYNE JONES C 40 min 3-6 FG 0-0 3 PT 3-6 FT 6 Off 14 Def 20 REBOUNDS 3 Assists 4 fouls 2 steals 0 Turnovers 5 BLOCKS 9 Points
This kid would make a great back up for Perk so that Al could play along side Perk at the 4.

Hey y'all, I just watched Dwayne Jones play for the first time today. NBAtv had the game on. Let me tell you what I think of DJ.
First of all, he reminds me a lot of Josh Boone (UCONN's big man) in body style as well as game. He's got good athleticism, mobility, and coordination (somewhere between Tony Battie and Mark Blount) but isn't a high flying freakish athlete, ala Chris Bosh. He's more of a player who stays well balanced on the floor instead using his athleticism to do his damage. He's got a good wingspan and can reach rebounds that are away from his body. Seems like he has pretty good hands, able to snatch rebounds one handed while stretching out.
He's pretty active on the boards and he tries to get positioning on his man.
Don't be looking for the next Ben Wallace because his ceiling is not that high (he may already be at his ceiling). His best case scenario seems to be as a solid backup C/PF who can be the first big man off the bench. He may be able to be a better scorer than what he's shown in college and so far in the D-League. But he may be no better than Perkins on offense (mid teens scorer at best).
Perk does a better job of bodying up with his man to secure rebounds and overall, I get the feeling that DJ won't be a better rebounder than Perk. But as for shot blocking, DJ may be Perk's equal. He's got a pretty good feel for blocking shots and his timing is pretty good as well.
After getting to see him play, I don't feel like we absolutely need him. But he could be a solid contributor off the bench. His effectiveness at the 4\5 could be better than what we get out of Raef.

Maybe a nice weight program and conditioning are all GG and DJo need. ?

Well, DJ's ceiling is nowhere near what Gerald Green's is. DJ at best is a backup Center in this league. But this is at his best. At GG's best, he's a star.
