I'm not sure what the league averages were, but the 86-87 Celtics averaged 112.6 ppg, while this year's celtics are averaging 111.6 Thst shows how much easier it is to score now vs bsck then. That was a great Celtic team. This one is a slightly above average team in the league today and there is only one point difference in scoring. And they would never jack up 40 threes a game back in the day.

I think we're better than slightly above average but I agree with the gist of what Fresh is saying. However, back in the day it wasn't against the rules to play defense.

It's crazy how much the game has changed. Guys are such better shooters now. If you watch a game from the 80s they left virtually everyone open until they were within the three point line. Hell, even with Bird they'd pretty much concede an open pull-up 3. Now you have to pick guys up within 10 feet of the 3 point line.
I do miss seeing more bully ball, post up basketball. Thanks to zone defenses, we so rarely see good post play anymore.
