I wish some people in the media would call that what it was.....lazy I think Tatum thinks the whole court is a good shot for him which is the problem and he takes the lazy way out. We did this in the crunch even with Pierce when we had KG and Ray, but at least Pierce had a "spot" and proved time and time again he could get to where he wanted in that area and get a good shot (or pass to Ray for 3). Tatum only seems to what to emulate Lillard and others with these step-back 3s which I'm not convinced is ever the "best" shot you can get in crunch time unless you really do need a 3. What's more infuriating is that Tatum does seem to have that mid-range game that Pierce was deadly with and he has the height on some of these guys (and maybe now some muscle) but he doesn't even try to get switches or back anyone down in the crunch. That is a maturity issue with Tatum. But shot selection has been a huge problem since Brad has been here. He doesn't seem to ever coach guys to their strengths or limit their shots for the betterment of the team (Smart). He pretty much just tells everyone to shoot it wherever they want too and lives with it. That is poor coaching and IMO has always been his biggest flaw as a coach.

It was one thing to take a three over the reigning DPOY needing two to tie and 3 to win, it's totally different to take one over Brogdan (I think it was Brogdan), needing 1 to tie and 2 to win. He could have gone inside for the foul and at least tied it up. Or possibly dished to someone like R Will for a dunk. It bordered on show boating. Maybe he felt like he made one so why not another

So after 3 games, Brown has shot a higher percentage than Tatum every game. Is there some reason I'm not aware of that JT has been annointed the closer on this team? And even if he has the ball, that he has to take the last shot? Even Jordan passed it sometimes for the winning shot. Plus, what about taking the shot with enough time left for a rebound and putback. If Smart had even one more second, he might have been able to get up a real shot.
Brad is supposed to be one of the best at out of bounds plays. Is end-of-game such a different situation that he can't design something?

All of this points to Tatum needing to learn from his mistakes.
Let’s see how he responds.
By the way, in Brad’smpost game interview, Tatum iso wasn’t the initial play called.

As most coaches will say, they are not as important as players are to the team’s success. I think Larry stated that as well. You have principles in place, but you give freedom to let the players play. Coming from the college coaching ranks where Brad had lots of set plays, he might be adjusting now. I don’t know, just thinking here. All I know is that Brad is very studious, and always tries to get better. He absolutely sees what we see.
